🚨 Important Update for Pet Owners with Short-Nosed Breeds 🚨

Effective October 1, 2026, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon Air will permanently ban the following breeds from cargo — no exceptions:

🐶 Dogs: Boston Terrier, Boxer (all types), Brussels Griffon, Bulldog (all types), Chow Chow, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, Mastiff, Pekingese, Pug, and Shih Tzu

🐱 Cats: Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, and Persian

Is there still a cargo option?

Yes — Pacific Air Cargo (LAX ↔ HNL) does not have this breed restriction. But there are important things families need to know:

🔹 The logistics are significant. Getting your pet to LAX from anywhere on the mainland means a cross-country drive — anywhere from a day or two if you're already on the West Coast, up to 4–5 days if you're coming from the East Coast. If you're leaving Hawaii, your pet flies into LAX and then drives to your final destination from there. Either way, this requires advance planning and coordination.

🔹 Pacific Air Cargo requires a full release of liability. Before they accept your pet, you must sign a waiver releasing PAC from all responsibility — including injury or death of your animal, even due to their own negligence. You also agree not to sue and to cover their legal costs if you try. This is something every family should read carefully and understand before choosing this option.

🔹 If you hire PCSmypet to transport your pet to LAX on your behalf, please know that we would be signing this waiver as the shipper — meaning you are authorizing us to release PAC from liability on your behalf. This is something we'll discuss with every family before accepting a PAC booking so there are no surprises.

We want to be upfront with you so you can make the best decision for your pet. If you own one of these breeds and have a move coming up, reach out to us now — the earlier we start planning, the more options we can explore together.

Interesting study just came out and proved something very important in military health.

You can make weight, pass tape, and max every PFT.
But that doesn’t mean your heart is in the clear.
Being PHYSICALLY strong ≠ PHYSIOLOGICALLY strong.

Military life isn’t the easiest life, And the exposures that come along with service aren’t the greatest.

Military life isn't easy, and the exposures that come with service aren't either. The things we breathe: heavy metal particulates in shoot houses, burn pits, sandstorms, exhaust fumes, etc. and the things we ingest, like PFAS-contaminated water on base, can silently raise cholesterol and clog arteries in soldiers who look perfectly fit.

The biggest concern is what stays hidden: sudden cardiac death (SCD).

SCD is the leading medical cause of duty-related death. In active-duty service members 35 and older, SCD rates more than triple and 73% of those deaths come from obstructive coronary artery disease.

In a study of 2,000 asymptomatic soldiers (average age 43), 1 in 5 men already had coronary calcium buildup. Those men carried nearly a 12-fold higher risk of heart disease... no symptoms required.

A few proactive ways to protect your heart health:

→ Get your blood pressure checked.
→ Manage stress effectively (poorly managed stress = increased fat storage)
→ Rule out sleep apnea & prioritize 8 hours of regenerative sleep.
→ Get a cholesterol panel (HDL, LDL, TG, Lp(a), CRP, and ApoB, too).
→ 40+ or a family history / risk factors? Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scan.
→ Baseline ECG & Stress testing if needed

So whether you're active, reserve, or a veteran: don't wait for the annual PFT to "clear" you physically, and DO NOT WAIT FOR SYMPTOMS TO SHOW UP.

As you enjoy the long weekend, take a moment to keep them in mind. The freedom to gather, travel, and rest is theirs to thank.

We are forever grateful for their sacrifice — and for the families who continue to carry the weight of their absence.

Remember. Honor. Reflect.

Pet relocation is confusing — the paperwork, the timelines, the kennels, the airline rules. We get it. That's why we take calls and answer messages even when there's nothing in it for us. If you're overwhelmed, just ask. 🐾🌺

One of the most common mistakes we see in Hawaii-bound pet travel — don't let it happen to you.

Wait 21-30 days after the rabies shot before drawing blood for the FAVN titer test. Test too early and you risk a false negative, which means starting the process all over again.

📢 Important Pricing Update from PCSmypet

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have merged their cargo operations under one brand — Alaska | Hawaiian Air Cargo — and last week they published a new pricing structure for live animal shipments. We're already on it and working through our client list to make sure everyone has the correct numbers before their travel date.

Here's what you need to know:

✈️ Airline pricing is now weight-based. Instead of a flat per-kennel rate, the airline now charges based on the total chargeable weight of your pet, kennel, and travel supplies. The rate band your pet falls into determines the cost.

🪖 Military families. If you have active duty PCS orders, you may qualify for a discounted rate. Contact us directly for details — the airline handles this at check-in and we want to make sure you have the right information going in.

📋 Quotes are now estimates. Because the final price is determined by actual weight at airline check-in, the quote we provide is our best calculation based on your pet's weight, kennel size, and a standard supply allowance. We will always flag if your pet is close to a rate band threshold.

📬 We are reaching out. Our team is personally contacting every family with an existing quote to make sure you have the correct numbers. Please don't hesitate to reach out directly if you have questions or haven't heard from us yet — we want to get to everyone as quickly as possible.

💙 To every family that has already booked and paid — we are truly sorry for any confusion or inconvenience this change may cause. You trusted us with one of the most important parts of your move and we do not take that lightly. We are committed to making sure every one of you is taken care of and has everything you need before your travel date.

Please note — PCSmypet's rates have not changed. The pricing update affects only what Alaska | Hawaiian Air Cargo charges at check-in. Our service fees remain exactly the same.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this. Our commitment to you hasn't changed — we are still here to make sure your pets travel safely and that you have all the information you need every step of the way.
