Randy is a loving husband and father from Lorena, Texas and he needs your help. Randy suffers from end stage kidney failure caused by diabetes and high blood pressure and autonomic nerve dysfunction. He receives these life-sustaining treatments every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and they take the majority of his day. He must adhere to strict fluid restrictions and dietary guidelines at all times
for the treatments to be effective. Randy experiences the following side effects: extreme weakness, low blood pressure, nausea, anemia, increased risk of infections, muscle cramping, and vomiting on a daily basis. Hemodialysis also increases his risk for heart failure. Randy was placed on the Scott & White Donor List 1 1/2 years ago and he was told it would likely take more than 5 years to receive a kidney. In the meantime, Randy is getting weaker even though he keeps himself in as good of condition as he can by eating right, exercising, and taking the necessary medication. He is an inspiration to many in how strong he has been in handling all of this. Because a kidney received from a living donor lasts twice as long as one from a deceased donor, we are asking you to consider being tested to be a donor. I know this is a big request. But I make it on behalf of someone who devotes every day of his life to making a difference in the lives of whoever he comes into contact with. Whether it is an encouraging smile, a quick joke, or a jar of his famous salsa, Randy shows people he cares. If you are unable to be a living kidney donor, please consider designating your kidney and the kidneys of those you love to Randy through Donate Life Texas. Forwarding this to your family, friends, work, school, congregation, or any other communities you are apart of would help us spread the word about Randy's need. In addition, support through prayer and encouragement will help Randy and his family through this difficult time. If you would like to learn more about living kidney donation, please feel free to email or call me. You can also call Scott & White's Live Donor program at 254-724-8912 and have a confidential conversation to get answers to any questions you may have. You do not even have to disclose who you are interested in helping, just that it is one of their patients.
