💥Aging parents and Estate Planning💥
It’s been almost 6 months since my sweet dad Roger passed. If you knew my dad; you probably would have expected that everything related to his estate was spelled out leaving few complications after he passed.
I wish that were the case but the last time he updated his will was in 2007. I was 24. Kerri was 21. My dad’s brother was the executor of his estate and was in his late 50s. Wells Fargo was still Wachovia. Kerri and I both still lived in Virginia.
Upon my dad’s passing and discovering the outdated will, I reached out to an old high school friend for an estate attorney recommendation. Chris pointed us Jessica Hayes at Wolcott Rivers Gates , and when we were ready to put his house on the market Jessica recommended Jennifer and Eric Ziemer
There are not words to describe our gratitude for how Eric and Jennifer picked up all the broken pieces and made this messy process as simple as it could be for us. They assessed the home, analyzed the market, decided on the necessary upgrades, picked out the flooring and the paint, hired all the contractors on our behalf to complete repairs, met said contractors at the house, connected us to feathered nest for the estate sale who then took care of getting everything out of my dads home. Eric even made arrangements to ship my grandparents dining table to me in Florida. I could have never managed all of this from out of the area.
So i implore all of you- make a will. Make sure your parents and loved ones have a will. Make sure everything is updated regularly. Better yet, do what we’ve done and create a trust!
