Final day. Just a couple more hours until we close in Audubon at 11pm (Templeton closed at 6pm). Thank you to everyone who patronized Waspy’s over the years and all the businesses under the Waspy’s umbrella. Lawrence “Waspy” and Doris gave back to the community ten fold. Doris and the Handlos family continue to do so. Again, thank you.

Again….The Feed Mill Restaurant remains OPEN (Wednesday - Saturday 10am to 9pm). They have the best hot beef, hand cut tenderloin sandwiches, broasted chicken and prime rib around. And the rest of the menu isn’t shabby at all as you all know! Do not forget to check out The Feed Mill page for new things happening next week beginning on March 4, etc. Thanks!

Our specials today are $2 off of either a 2-piece or a 4-piece broasted chicken entrée (choice of two sides). And $2 off our wonderful hand cut and tenderized tenderloin sandwich (hand breaded or grilled).

We also have buttered corn as another veggie option…homemade Zuppa soup…and salmon is the fish of the day.

Just three (3) more days until Waspy’s closes our doors for good on Saturday, February 28th (11pm Audubon | 6pm in Templeton). Please keep supporting us these next few days by purchasing fuel and items in our convenience stores as much as you can as we continue to appreciate our customers from near and far!!!!!!! Side Note: We do not know Casey’s timeline for their re-opening or other plans, but we suspect they will be sharing information with the public via social media, etc. Thank you!

Our story

Lawrence “Waspy” Handlos, a native of a Willey farm, knew that Waspy’s Truck Stop in Templeton, Iowa was something that was needed for the 5,000 vehicles that pass by on Highway 141 daily. Now, Waspy’s Truck Stop, a full-service truck stop, stands on 10 acres at the corner of County Road N-18 and 305th Street, an area just 1/2 mile north of Highway 141.

The Handlos family was more than excited on the opening day of Waspy’s Truck Stop, Wednesday, May 24th, 2017. Longtime Audubon-area farmer Lawrence “Waspy” Handlos and his wife, Doris, are the sole owners of Waspy’s Truck Stop. The Truck Stop was developed by Lawrence and Doris’s son Brian Handlos. While the Templeton location is the first Waspy’s Truck Stop, a second location is not far behind. An Audubon, Iowa project is on its way and will be located to the west of the airport on the south side of the city.

You may be wondering, how did Lawrence, who is now 80 years old, get the nickname “Waspy”? He got the nickname from his father, John, a German immigrant who settled in the Carroll, Iowa area. He gave Lawrence that nickname as a child because it is tied to another German name that his father liked, Sebastian. “Waspy” has stuck with Lawrence ever since and is now the unique, memorable brand name of a well-known truck stop.
