Ever wonder why farmers remove fruit from their trees before they're ripe? 🍎🍑

Over the past few months, our team at Sky Top Orchard has been hard at work hand-thinning our fruit trees in preparation for the season ahead! This important process helps us grow bigger, sweeter, and healthier fruit for you to enjoy throughout the year.

While it may seem strange to remove some fruit, thinning allows each tree to focus its energy on producing higher-quality fruit while supporting the long-term health of the orchard.

There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into every apple and peach we grow, and we love sharing that journey with you!

Field Trips at Sky Top combine learning with FUN! 🍎 Reserve your 2026 slot now!

We have been leading field trips at Sky Top for over 30 years and since those early days, it has always been one of our CORE goals to teach students where their food comes from and inspire them to respect and care for our environment. 🌎

Our field trips combine a short educational lesson, a hayride to our U-pick area, apples to take home, information about pollinators (check out our observational beehive!), free time at our picnic area and playground and so much more!

As the day winds down, we wanted to take a moment to recognize Earth Day. 🌎 🌱

We’re grateful for this land and the opportunity to grow here. It’s not something we take lightly. Every season teaches us something new—patience, respect, and at times, how much is out of our control. Even so, we believe we have a responsibility to show up for this land and take care of it the best we can.

From the mountains around us to the small things that can be overlooked—the bees, the butterflies, and the soil under our feet—it all plays a part in what we do.

We hope, in our own way, we’re taking care of this place and passing that mindset on. Not just growing fruit, but helping the next generation understand why it matters to care for the land and respect it.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! 🌷🐣 One of the highlights from our weekend was a family orchard walk—checking in on the progress of our blooms and hearing from our dad, the patriarch of Sky Top, about what it takes to grow a successful crop. A sweet reminder of how special this land and fruit are to us, across generations. 🍎💛
