We hope everyone had a wonderful winter and holiday season! The weather has definitely been teasing us lately — one day it's sunny and warm, and today it's snowing. Gotta love Michigan… or as they say, Pure Michigan! 😂

With spring right around the corner, we’re getting excited for another season on the river! 🌊🛶
Kayak Shiawassee will officially open:
📅 May 2nd – Weekend Rentals Begin
📅 June 6th – Open for Rentals Any Day of the Week

Whether you're looking for a relaxing float, a fun day with family, or an adventure with friends, we can’t wait to see familiar faces and welcome some new ones this year!

We offer:

📍 Easy kayak drop-off & pick-up on the beautiful Shiawassee River
🌳 A relaxing way to enjoy nature right here in our community

⚠️ Safety Note: If the river water level is too high, we will pause rentals for safety reasons. We always want to make sure everyone has a fun and safe experience on the water.

🚨 Update: Route Option #1 Temporarily Unavailable 🚨

Due to downed trees in the river, Route #1 starting at Geeck Road Park is currently unavailable. We’re working closely to monitor the situation, and we’ll have this option available as soon as it's safe to do so.

Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Please consider one of our other route options in the meantime — give us a call to plan your paddle! 🌊🛶

We’re off to a fantastic start to our *second season*, and we couldn’t be more grateful for all of our returning and new customers! Your support, smiles, and adventurous spirit make every trip down the river something special. 💚

A few friendly reminders before your next paddle with us:

🌊 Price: $25 per kayak for the whole day
👥 Age Requirement: 18+ only
🚌 No shuttle service available – plan accordingly

☀️ What to bring:

* Sunscreen
* Plenty of water
* A waterproof bag or case for your valuables
* Water shoes (trust us—some river spots are *muddy*, and you don’t want to lose a flip-flop!)

📋 A signed **liability form** is required before hitting the water

🦺 We provide a life vest and a river map for every trip

Heads up for this summer:

Due to river improvements and ongoing construction, our trips look a little different this year. Kayakers will not be able to travel from Kirby/Lytle Road Park to Corunna (Brady Street or McCurdy Park) because the causeway behind the Michigan Brick Plant is being removed.

Also, you might experience issues accessing the river near Washington Street in Owosso due to construction.

Plan your paddle carefully:

Our trips fill up fast, so if you or your group are looking to hit the water, please give us a call as far in advance as possible!

Here are some recommended routes with approximate paddle times at a steady pace:

1. Geeck Road Park to Shi-Town County Park
**THIS OPTION NOT AVAILABLE FOR NOW
* About 6.2 river miles
* Approximately: 1 hour 45 minutes paddling time

2. Shi-Town Park to Vernon Boat Launch

* Approximately 3 river miles
* Around 45 minutes paddling time

3. Vernon Boat Launch to Lytle Road County Park

* About 3.7 river miles
* Leisurely pace takes around 1 hour 45 minutes

4. Geeck Road County Park to Lytle Road County Park

* A longer trip of about 10 river miles
* Approximately 4 hours 30 minutes paddle time (5 hours 30 minutes leisurely paddle)

What affects your time?

*River conditions: Low water may slow you down and require detours.

*Skill & fitness: Beginners paddle slower than experienced kayakers.

We’re also happy to discuss other drop-off and pick-up points — just reach out and we can help plan your perfect trip!

We had someone lose a blue tote bag with the initials AS on it somewhere between Shiatown Park and Lytle Rd park on the Shiawassee River. It could be anywhere by now but I'm hoping it was caught up somewhere. If you find it, please shoot us a call or message! Thanks!
