Today marks 27 years since a pivotal moment in my life. I don't need to share the exact details, but the experience taught me a profound lesson: life is so special and can never be taken for granted.

Too often, we put off our dreams and acts of kindness, saying "I'll do it tomorrow," "next week," or "I'm too busy." But the truth is, life can take a crazy turn in a minute, and our time could be gone.

You don't need to go through a life-changing event to realize this. You can learn from others who have walked that path. Many of our heroes and legends have come from moments of deep change. Their stories are a testament to the power of resilience and a call to action.

If you have an idea, do it now. Go help your neighbor. Go volunteer. The time to make a difference is now. The time to make a change is now.

I'm loving being on Reddit and Quora answering these questions! Here's what I answered to this guy:

This is a really thoughtful question, and it's something a lot of young people think about. It’s smart that you're considering the risks and not just jumping in blindly.

I'll be blunt: The fear of failure is real. You're going to think about it every day. But here’s the most important thing I've learned from my own journey: Don't let the fear of failure stop you from taking a calculated risk.

You mentioned you're the only kid in your family, and that's a lot of pressure. But it also means you have a unique opportunity to lead and inspire.

My husband Joe and I started a business called The Ill Noise Business Playbook, and it was a calculated risk. We're not making a ton of money right now, and that's okay. Our goal is to build a high-quality platform and a community of "power partners" that will eventually lead to sponsorships and services. We are playing the long game, not looking for instant gratification.

We are so in love with our mission that we don't have time to think about failure. We're too busy having fun building our community, interviewing awesome business owners, and making connections.

My best advice to you is this: start small. Instead of quitting school, build a side business or a passion project. Prove the model to yourself first. That way, you're not taking on a massive risk, but you're still learning and moving forward. The goal isn't just to be "financially free"; it's to build something you're proud of. The money will follow.

I saw this post on Reddit small business. I have been one of these trying to find ways to start a business. And now I have The Ill Noise Business Playbook with Joe, my one and only. I responded to it with this 'Posting that takes guts. It is brave to admit you have been a victim to those get rich schemes because I have been there too!

The best and most valuable advice I can give is from my own path is this: Don't just chase the money; chase the mission.

Get-rich-quick schemes never work because, honestly, they're no fun. The businesses that truly last are the ones you're passionate about. You'd do the work for fun, even if you weren't making a dime, because you're completely in love with the mission.

I've been there myself, stuck in the grind. My husband, Joe, and I started a sports entertainment show before we realized our true mission was to build a community around local businesses and helping them thrive. That's why we created The Ill Noise Business Playbook. The show isn't just about an interview; it's about connecting with people, helping them tell their stories, and building a community where we can all grow together. That purpose is what gets us out of bed every day.

So, my advice to you is to take a step back and ask yourself:

What problem do I genuinely want to solve?

What kind of people do I want to help?

What would I be proud to put my name on, regardless of the money it makes?

Once you find the answer to that, your path will become much clearer. The money is just a byproduct of doing meaningful work. It’s about building a solid foundation, not chasing a quick buck.

In a world that often feels divided, a simple truth remains: our communities are built on the backbone of small businesses and the people who run them. They are not just storefronts; they are neighbors, friends, and dreamers who pour their hearts into what they do.

This isn't about profit margins or corporate gains. It's about a handshake, a friendly face, and a community that lifts each other up. It's about remembering the success of one small business ripples through the entire neighborhood.

Let's shift our focus. Let's make a conscious choice to support the underdog, invest in our local economy, and show some love to the people who make our towns feel like home. Because when we prioritize people, we're investing in a love that builds a better world for all of us.

I've been thinking a lot about the kind of world we want to live in—and the kind of businesses we want to support.

It feels like there's so much wrongdoing and so much shady business going on. The easy route is to look the other way. But as my motto says, it's about people over profit.

I believe our small businesses are the front lines of the good fight. They’re the ones doing things the right way, with integrity and heart. This is more than just about supporting small businesses; it’s about supporting a way of life. They’re the underdogs fighting against a system that often seems rigged.

So here's my question to you: What does an ethical business look like to you? What kind of shady stuff do you think we need to call out and fix?

Let's use this page to talk about it.

Hey everyone! You know I can't stay silent when I see things that aren't right. That's why I've created Solve & Evolve—a space to turn that energy into positive change. My time in bookkeeping showed me firsthand how many small businesses struggle against a system that often prioritizes profit over people and rewards those cutting corners.

I believe in fair labor, a level playing field where local businesses can thrive without being undercut by massive corporations like Amazon, and economic policies that actually support our communities, not harm them. Supporting small isn't just a nice thing to do; it's a direct act of resistance against that transactional mentality and a vote for the kind of world we want to live in.

Let's uplift the businesses that are doing things the right way, investing in their people and our community. I'm excited to share stories, ideas, and ways we can all make a difference, one conscious choice at a time.
