Moving a kayak, paddleboard, or canoe long distance? Drain and dry the hull first to prevent mildew. Remove seats, foot pegs, and accessories; bag or box them and label clearly. Protect gunwales and rails with foam, stretch wrap, tape, and furniture pads. Cover the cockpit or hull opening, support the boat well, and never overtighten straps: heat can make hulls deform. Use proper bow and stern tie-downs, keep other cargo from crushing the boat, and recheck straps at stops.
