Yesterday, during one of our scheduled scuba dive excursions, our crew and passengers experienced an unimaginable tragedy. A diver on our scuba boat experienced a sudden, acute medical episode that appears to be unrelated to the dive itself.
Despite the immediate, heroic life-saving efforts of our crew and the swift response of local emergency personnel, the diver ultimately passed away. Our entire Nautical North family is absolutely heartbroken, and we extend our deepest, most sincere condolences to the diver’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be releasing any further details regarding the individual.
While we mourn this profound loss, I want to publicly express how incredibly proud I am of our team. In the face of a worst-case scenario, our crew responded with flawless professionalism, immense bravery, and absolute grace. They did everything humanly possible, executing their emergency training without hesitation while maintaining the utmost care for everyone on board.
We are also deeply grateful to the local first responders who met us at the dock and worked tirelessly alongside us.
We ask our community to join us in keeping the diver's family in your prayers. Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and respect for privacy as we navigate this grief together.

💧✨ It’s FACT FRIDAY! Let’s talk about that crystal-clear water we cruise on: LAKE HURON! 🌊👇

Ever wonder why the water looks so beautiful and keeps our shipwrecks so perfectly preserved? Here are 4 quick mind-blowing facts:

✨ 1. Liquid Time Capsule: Because Lake Huron is so cold and clear, it acts like an underwater museum, preserving historic shipwrecks for over a century!

☀️ 2. Caribbean Blues: The stunning turquoise color happens because the water has very low organic matter. Sunlight scatters off fine calcium particles, bouncing back those tropical shades!

🪞 3. It’s MASSIVE: Lake Huron holds 850 cubic miles of water. If you poured it over the entire United States, the whole country would be under a foot of water!

🔄 4. Slow Refresh: It takes about 22 years for a single drop of water to cycle completely out of the lake. The water you see today has been hanging out for decades!

🦅🐟 Nature lovers, this one is for you! Did you know a Nautical North cruise is basically a front-row seat to Northern Michigan’s wildest wildlife show? 🌊👇

While we love looking down through our glass-bottom viewing wells at historic shipwrecks, we always tell our passengers to keep one eye on the sky! The Straits of Mackinac and the Cheboygan River are bustling with incredible wildlife.

Here are some of the amazing, real-life nature moments we frequently spot along our routes:

🦅 The Mighty Bald Eagle: Keep your eyes peeled on the highest treetops along the shoreline! We are incredibly lucky to regularly spot majestic Bald Eagles nesting and soaring over the water. Seeing their massive white heads and impressive wingspans against the blue sky never gets old.

🎯 High-Speed Fishing Birds: Watch out for Osprey and Caspian Terns hunting for their lunch! These birds are absolute masters of the sky. They will hover high above the water, lock eyes on a fish below, and completely dive-bomb into the waves at high speeds—often emerging a second later with a fish tightly locked in their talons!

🦆 Waterfront Neighbors: From elegant Great Blue Herons wading in the shallows to playful ducks and cormorants swimming alongside the boat, the riverbanks and shoreline are always buzzing with activity.

Whether you’re a photographer hoping to catch that perfect shot of a bird of prey mid-strike, or a family wanting to show the kids Michigan nature at its finest, there is always something beautiful to see. 📸✨
