He's here! Say hello to Samuel Howard... He and Mama Bear are doing great! After a mere 4 hours of labor and barely 2 hours in the hospital he came into this world weighing 8lbs and stretching to 20 inches. This guy is STRONG and is already lifting his head and looking around. He can almost roll over already and will climb you looking for something to eat 😂

A quick update.

Our family is walking through a really hard season right now. Several serious health situations and a sudden loss, all at once. We're leaning on each other and taking it a day at a time.

The good news: Sarah and baby Samuel are doing great, and he could arrive any day now.

The next Alaska episode is coming. It's a great story and it deserves my full attention and the right headspace, so I'm not going to rush it out.

Thank you for the patience, the kind words, and the prayers. They mean more than you know.

Horse Creek Trail Review – East Tennessee

Howdy Folks,

Here's a trail review that recently went live on onX Offroad's channel and is a BEAUTIFUL drive through Appalachia with a few fun challenges and TONS of creek crossings.

Details:

Horse Creek Trail Tennessee is a rugged 4x4 route near Greeneville in the Cherokee National Forest. In this Horse Creek Trail review, we drive Forest Service Road 94 in a stock 2026 Toyota 4Runner through creek crossings, rocky climbs, steep switchbacks, and rock steps near the Appalachian Trail.

How difficult is Horse Creek Trail? Horse Creek Trail is a moderate 5/10 route best suited for street-legal, high-clearance 4x4 vehicles. The lower section is rocky, wet, and approachable for most capable stock vehicles, while the upper section becomes steeper and more technical with mud, tight switchbacks, limited passing areas, and rock steps that require careful tire placement.

Starting at the Horse Creek Recreation Area, the trail climbs nearly 3,000 feet in roughly 5 miles, rising from about 1,800 feet to the Bald Mountains ridgeline near 4,500 feet. Along the way, the road passes through creek crossings, dense rhododendron tunnels, narrow mountain terrain, and scenic sections of the Cherokee National Forest.

Horse Creek Trail is a narrow, one-way-in-and-out road (10 mile round-trip), so drivers should be prepared to negotiate with oncoming traffic in tight sections. Airing down is highly recommended for improved traction, ride comfort, and tire protection. Heavy rain can quickly raise creek levels and make the upper trail muddy and slippery.

The payoff at the top includes a rock outcrop with expansive views across East Tennessee, a nearby World War II veteran’s grave marker, and access to the Appalachian Trail.

With creek crossings, technical terrain, camping, mountain views, and deep local history, Horse Creek Trail is one of the most rewarding short 4x4 climbs in East Tennessee.

Wanted to share a recent adventure with you that took us to the Arctic Ocean:

The Dalton Highway is one of the most infamous and remote drives in North America: 414 miles of gravel and mostly broken pavement from just north of Fairbanks to Deadhorse on the Arctic Ocean, as far north as the public can drive in the United States. Built in just five months in 1974 to support the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, it still carries 150 to 250 semi-trucks a day, and it crosses the Yukon River, the Arctic Circle, the Brooks Range at Atigun Pass, and the treeless tundra of the North Slope along the way.

The driving is easy for most vehicles, but conditions can degrade quickly with unpredictable weather and brutal potholes. Remoteness is the real challenge. There's very little cell service and fuel should be carefully monitored, especially the 240 miles stretch from Coldfoot to Deadhorse. We ran this route with a Toyota 4Runner and Lexus GX460, aired down to 25 psi, carrying 5 gallons of reserve fuel, and pre-loaded onX Offroad with waypoints and offline maps, which I'd call mandatory out here. Give the truckers the road, keep your headlights on, and budget for multiple pilot-car waits through construction that can range from 10 to 40 minutes.

The highlights come steadily: the Arctic Circle at mile 115, biscuits and gravy at Coldfoot, Sukakpak Mountain, and the summit of Atigun Pass: 4,800 feet, 12 percent grades, few guardrails. Beyond it, caribou and musk ox roam the North Slope, and Deadhorse's pre-booked Arctic Ocean shuttle is the finish line the whole road builds toward. For the best experience aim for mid-July to late August, give it four days minimum for the round-trip, and come prepared for winter even in summer.

The Dalton Highway is one of those experiences everyone should enjoy at least once in their lifetime.

Silver update... Poor girl threw her shoe again on the farm. My dad was really enjoying using her as a farm truck but those remaining stressed lugs finally gave up! My to-do list just keeps growing 🤦

In other news, we've got an Alaskan episode coming out soon on our channel along with 2 new videos on the channel (one out now, another this Sunday). It's been crazy behind the scenes but I'm slowly getting caught up after a month of filming in Alaska.

Sarah had some early contractions yesterday so we're doing our best to keep baby Sam calm until 37 weeks... We could have a new family member very soon!

My nephew is still struggling at Cincinnati Children's Hospital so please continue to keep him in your prayers. THANK YOU to the huge outpouring of support on his funding. You guys have helped push the total over $15,000 and growing!!! (See previous post)

Baby Caden needs your prayers and support...

I don't usually bring family matters here, but this one matters too much not to share.

On May 31st, my brother Caleb (who has been in several episodes) and his wife Hannah welcomed their fourth child, Caden Seth. Two hours after he was born, he started struggling to breathe and was rushed to the NICU — where he's been ever since.

Caden was diagnosed with CHARGE Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that's affected his heart, kidneys, eyes, ears, and his ability to swallow properly. In seven weeks of life, this little guy has been through more than most of us face in a lifetime. A feeding tube surgery earlier this month didn't go as hoped, and as I type this he's being transferred via a medical flight to a Cincinnati Children's Hospital for a more specialized evaluation and to hopefully get him stabilized.

Caleb and Hannah have been at his bedside every single day while raising three other kids who still haven't met their baby brother. The medical bills, daily travel, and equipment he'll need at home are piling up fast — and the transfer will only add to it.

His name means "fighter," and he's living up to it. If you can give, every dollar helps. Most importantly, we appreciate your prayers for his speedy stabilization so he can come home soon.
