After gathering oem parts and lots of hours of precision work, I finally finished rebuilding B18C5, bringing the iconic Type R powerplant back to life in like-new condition. With its freshly machined and balanced internals, restored PR3 head, new high-compression pistons, and perfectly timed DOHC VTEC valvetrain, the engine is once again ready to scream past 8,000 rpm with the crisp response the B18C5 is known for. It’s the kind of build that blends craftsmanship with passion—reviving a legendary piece of Honda engineering and giving it a second life worthy of the Integra Type R name.
The Honda B18C5 is the legendary heart of the U.S.-market Acura Integra Type R, engineered as a hand-built, track-focused evolution of the B-series platform. This 1.8-liter DOHC VTEC engine featured a meticulously ported and polished PR3 cylinder head, lightweight high-compression pistons (10.6:1), balanced internals, strengthened rods, and aggressive Type R–specific camshafts that allowed it to spin confidently to an 8,400-rpm redline. A larger throttle body, high-flow intake manifold, 4-1 performance header, and a factory 4.7 final drive helped the engine deliver its distinctive razor-sharp response and a peak output of 195 hp at 8,000 rpm—a remarkable figure for a naturally aspirated four-cylinder of its era. Known for its intoxicating VTEC engagement and unmatched durability, the B18C5 remains a benchmark for high-revving performance and one of the most celebrated engines in Honda’s history.
