This ‘78 Hudson Defever was given a second chance at life. Andrew of Independent Marine Service bought it at auction in Tacoma, and although it was surveyed, there were several major issues hiding behind faux bulkheads. Clearly someone knew this poor boat was rotten to the hull and didn’t want any prospective buyer to find out the extent of the damage.
Rather than try and get his money back and keep shopping for the right boat, Andrew decided to roll up his sleeves and *make* Enigma the right boat, most certainly saving it from the vessel turn-in program where it would have been chopped up and sent to a landfill.
So Enigma got the refit of a lifetime with new soles, new bulkhead and sole structures, a spiffy new holding system, re-cored decks, an upgraded bilge pump with dry bilge system, a new diesel tank, PEX plumbing, all new 120v wiring, new 12v lighting, a new battery bank, a reverse cycle heating and cooling system, and lots of general woodwork, painting, and scrubbing.
We miss this special old trawler, but she brought many happy memories. If you own a vessel in the Tacoma area that has turned up a few unpleasant surprises or just needs some love, message us for a consultation. We love seeing old boats get a second chance.
