Friends of the Shelter - Iredell County A page dedicated to bettering the lives and outcomes for animals at Iredell County's Community Shelter. Run by ICAS volunteers!

These animals are located at Iredell County Animal Services in Statesville, NC! At this time, Iredell County Animal Services does NOT have transport “connections” so it will be UP TO THE RESCUE wanting to pull the animal to coordinate transport! If there is an animal listed that you are interested in pulling or have questions about please email Tina at [email protected] and please provide the animals name (and/or Animal ID #), your name and the rescue group you are affiliated with! If you have not pulled from ICAS before please fill out Rescue Group Agreement (Breed Placement Package) that is attached. We now offer health certificates for animals pulled from ICAS by the destination shelter/rescue/home for a $6 fee per animal on the health certificate. If an animal is being pulled by a rescue for another rescue we will not be able to do a health certificate. The final rescue/home must be the one to “pull” the dog. If the pulling rescue is new you MUST submit the Breed Placement Package BEFORE any hold or transport will be planned!

**Once a rescue commits to pulling a dog(s), they have 48 business hours to arrange transport to pick the dog(s) up from the shelter unless otherwise arranged with the rescue coordinator. The hours for the shelter are Mon-Fri 10:30am-5:00 pm & Saturday 10am-2pm. If the rescue does not correspond with the rescue coordinator for 48 hours post commitment, the dog(s) will be offered to other rescues.**

Tucker showed up at his finder’s house and turns out, he had been roaming the neighborhood for some time, when Animal Control Officers responded. This friendly guy comes running up, all tail wags and sniffs, to greet his new friend who is going to take him to safety here at the shelter!
He had no chip and no ID tag, which meant no way to contact his family if he had one. He was never claimed by a family and will now try his luck at changing all that!

Since he has been with us, he has met a similar sized spayed female and right away, the two met nose-to-nose, loose tail wags and lots of curious sniffs! He prance around in the grass for a bit for his new friend and then he showed off his amazing zoomie skills! This sweet boy is ready for playtime and hopes to get that chance at his new home soon, with his forever family!

He is such the good boy, that he is often used as a greeter dogs for other dogs here at the shelter!
Come and meet this sweet and handsome blue boy in person to see if he is your newest addition!

We always recommend meet and greets with other dogs and children prior to adoption to ensure a great fit for all. Because he was a stray, we don’t have information how he does with cats and no way to test for that.
All of our adoptable dogs/puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and UTD on all age-appropriate vaccines/preventatives. Adopters will need to establish vet care upon adopting to maintain their new family member’s health and wellness.

And remember the 3-3-3 Rule when adopting a shelter pet.
3 days for your new pet to decompress
3 weeks for your new family member to settle in
3 months for them to build trust

Tucker’s adoption fee is 8️⃣0️⃣!
Please bring a collar and leash OR purchase a combo from us for only $15 to safely take your new family member home.

We are a first come, first served and in-person adoption center and are located at 430 Bristol Drive in Statesville, NC. We are open for adoptions Monday-Friday 12-5pm and Saturdays 11am-2pm.

😍🤗 Are Her Color Swirls Even Real? Yes, they are! Meet Sissy! 😍🤗
Sissy is one of several cattle dogs, all from the same former home, here searching for her forever home and family!
This beautiful 3 year old blue herder is such a sweet girl! She is a little nervous here at the shelter inside her kennel, as this can be a noisy place, but this sweet and docile girl is truly resilient!
Her nervousness seems turns to excitement as soon as she figures out that a human is there to get her out of her kennel, as she knows what lies on the other side!
Once she is outside, she can’t walk further than maybe 10 steps before the urge to roll over for you to commence with belly rubs hits her. And who are we to NOT oblige?
This beautiful and sweet girl has won the hearts of both staff and volunteers alike, we aren’t sure why Sissy hasn’t found her family yet. And she is totally housebroken!!
She got along great with all of her former housemate friends, with Papaw Wyatt being her absolute favorite, just as he is all their favorite! We always recommend meet and greets with and children prior to adoption to ensure a great fit for all, also! We don’t have information on how she does with cats and no way to test for this.
If you can’t promise forever, please consider waiting until that can be a promise kept, BEFORE adopting!

And remember the 3-3-3 Rule when adopting a shelter pet.

Found in the middle of a BUSY intersection- Mattie stayed in her finder’s garage until we reopened, and she did great with her 5 year old son!!

After coming in as a stray and never being reclaimed, she is NOW ready for a family of her own!

Since she has been here, she has met with both a similar size spayed female AND a neutered male! She was nervous and a little fearful of both dogs, but we just know with slow introductions and more socialization with other dogs, she will be more comfortable with them! A gentle and respectful dog, much like her, would likely be her best canine companion, if she were to have one.

This sweet girl is always happy to see you, and her tail will NEVER NOT be wagging, well… unless maybe when she is asleep!

She keeps such a neat kennel that we think she is also housebroken!

Please come and meet this adorable sleeping beauty in person here at the shelter to see if she is meant to spend forever with your family! We are a first come, first served and in person adoption center.

Looking for Love Again- Meet Finch
Adopted from us in May of this year, it is under heartbreaking circumstances that Finch returns to us- as a result of his owner facing devastating changes in his life circumstances.
He did let us know that Finch was the most wonderful boy! He is house trained, crate trained, he loves other dogs and always loved going to grandma's house- who was not able to keep him long term, sadly.

He let us know how social this sweet boy is and that he will likely do best in a home with other dogs! He is always excited to see everyone and is working on not jumping on them when he does... it's hard to contain how much he wants to see everyone! He was not around cats or livestock, so we have no way to know how he does with either and no way to test for either.

Finch is super lovable and is always smiling, no matter the situation... Please help us to find his forever family to never have to come back to us again!

If you’d like to meet this sweet boy and receive a precious Finch hug, come visit us in person at:

🩷 Sleeping Beauty Longs for a Porch of Her Own! Meet Michaela! 🩷

Showing up on her finder’s porch then taking a nap until Animal Control Officer could respond to the call, this sweet girl is ready to sleep on her own porch from now on! Meet Michaela!
With no chip and no ID tag, there was no way to contact her family if she had one and now she is on the search for one!

Since she has been with us, she met Tucker- a neutered canine friend who is her same size and was a little fearful before the meeting… but as soon as she saw him, she opened right up! Michaela walked right over to him with loose wagging tail and started to wiggle her whole body! She was so excited to play and starting zooming like she couldn’t control it! This super sweet and derpy girl is beyond precious!

Please come and meet this adorable sleeping beauty in person here at the shelter to see if she is meant to spend forever with your family! We are a first come, first served and in person adoption center.
