Two stops today for the party bus, Ojai, and Goleta . All Tehachapi kids. A really hissy
Feisty Turkey Vulture to Ojai Raptor Center. Along with an injured Raven (still alive) victim of a vehicle strike and a baby Deer Mouse  abandoned
To Santa Barbara wildcare network in Goleta, California.

These kids all came in before 11 o'clock. We had to divert our volunteer transport to stand-by at the 138 freeway and I-5 SB. From there, the party bus received two new passengers. Great horned owl, Red Tail Hawk and Cooper's Hawk arrived safely at Ojai Raptor center before 1430hrs. Thank you Jamie Jenkins for the relay and Laurie Nash for completing their journey, the rest of the way to ORC. Thank you Jessica Reba Ashton for riding sh***un from Tehachapi to the I-5. As always a lot of gratitude to The Ojai Raptor Center.

Directly following the freeway great horned owl and the Red Tail Hawk with a squirrel stuck in its throat, we received a third call of a Cooper's hawk that was suffering from a window strike. This bird was quite spicy, which is a good sign. Cooper's Hawk will also be going to ORC. Thank you Jessica Reba Ashton for the assist on the capture. Also to the finder Sean Gallagher for calling us promptly.

Shortly after the freeway Great Horned Owl, we received a call of a Red Tail Hawk with a squirrel stuck in his throat. It was a very old dead squirrel and dried out. The finder broke the leg off The Squirrel, so the hawk could kind of shut its mouth. It looked pretty down and out but also on its way to ORC. Thank you to the finder Carrie Ragsdale for calling us and to our dedicated team member Richard Ege for the capture.

Received two calls on this Great Horned Owl, WB 58 FWY before Broome exit in the center divide. One call at 0754hrs the other at 0758hrs. Lucky for this owl, we had a volunteer at the Capitol Hill Starbucks that headed out. We had custody of this kid at 0810hrs. Thank you to the two good humans who called us Julie Pratt Huisjen and Connor D Long Thank you Richard Ege for the
rapid response and capture, very hazardous  on the 58. Thank you California Highway Patrol for showing up to help. This owl
Will be going to ORC today.

Heartbreaking News from Tehachapi Volunteer Wildlife Transport

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the sad news that the beloved Golden Hills Collared elk has passed away.

We were just notified by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) that the elk was struck by a vehicle in Stallion Springs. We do not know when the accident occurred.

Over the past several weeks, many residents have reached out asking if we had received any updates or sightings. We know just how special this elk was to the Golden Hills community and how much joy its presence brought to so many.

This is certainly not the outcome we had hoped for, and it breaks our hearts to share this news. We felt it was important to let the community know, especially those who have been following and caring about this beautiful animal.

Rest peacefully, beautiful elk. You were loved by an entire community.
