The extreme heat lately has really made me think.
Every summer, I hear complaints about workers who are outside all day. I’ve heard customers complain because a mover left a little sweat on a wall or a piece of furniture, or because the crew wasn’t moving as fast as they expected in 100° heat.
Meanwhile, the weather is telling us to keep our pets indoors because it’s too dangerous to be outside.
The people moving your furniture, roofing your home, mowing your lawn, paving your streets, collecting your trash, and doing countless other jobs don’t have that option. They’re out there in the blazing sun so life can keep moving for the rest of us.
They’re not machines. They’re human beings with families, and they’re doing physically demanding work in conditions most of us wouldn’t want to face for even an hour.
A little patience, a kind word, a bottle of cold water, or simply showing some understanding can mean a lot.
The next time you see someone working outside in this heat, remember that they’re making your life easier. They deserve our appreciation, our respect, and a little grace—not criticism over a few drops of sweat.
