Not all of Maine's earliest European settlers came voluntarily. Carol Gardner’s talk, “Involuntary Americans: Scottish Prisoners in Early Colonial Maine,” discussed the more than 400 prisoners of war who were brought to Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts against their will in 1650-1651.

Dr. Gardner is the author of a published narrative history "The Involuntary American: A Scottish Prisoner’s Journey to the New World." Her excellent book chronicles the life and times of Scottish foot soldier Thomas Doughty, who was captured at the Battle of Dunbar, shipped to Boston, sold to a Puritan industrialist in New Hampshire, and eventually established his own milling operation on the S**o River in Maine.

RAII, LLC— has concluded its pre-opening engagement with a luxury historic inn project in Virginia. We wish the ownership team continued success as the property advances toward opening.

Our focus now turns toward development. We are currently exploring investor and strategic partnerships for a multi-state luxury outdoor hospitality concept spanning three targeted markets.

The RAII project vision centers on private, luxury, design-forward micro-resort accommodations built around elevated guest experiences, operational efficiency, and experience-driven demand within the luxury outdoor travel space. Our long-term focus remains on growth-oriented, business-friendly regions that value entrepreneurship, freedom, and Constitutional principles.

RAII remains available for select consulting engagements, interim inn management opportunities, culinary event support, and hospitality content refinement for referred or pre-approved clients.
