Junebug Boutique STL A homeschooling mom of two sharing life, sewing, baking, and vintage decor!

🍂Hello from my front porch- is it anything spectacular? Of course not- but it’s simple and fun. Just a reminder that you don’t have to go overboard to have a lovely home. This whole display cost less than $100 and that includes the rugs and the vintage planter. I like to keep my fall decor simple because I know I love decorating for Christmas November 1st.

🕯️Would you believe me if I told you I used to be so embarrassed to go thrifting? My mom + sisters have always loved to go, but I was just so embarrassed by it. It wasn’t until I really started to recognize how much overconsumption there is in our world that I even had the desire to source things secondhand.
Now you can find me at the thrift store multiple times a week hunting for my next treasure. I used to think thrifting meant you “couldn’t afford” new- but now I know that I was dead wrong. Thrifting is a small way I can make an impact for sustainability.

🍂My idea of a “big life” has changed so much over the years- from getting an education, to building a practice, to pivoting to owning a small business, then to motherhood. I have always wanted to have it all- but I noticed the harder I tried to have it all- the worse I felt about my performance in every aspect. Stepping away from a career I worked so hard for was scary, but I haven’t regretted a single day spending more time with my children. I know that this is where I’m supposed to be. Watching how things have changed and shifted since I left practice has been pivotal in discovering what I truly want. I love that you’re here and I want to share little moments of my BIG life with you all here in my cozy corner of the internet.

🍂A beautiful fall day calls for a roadtrip up to Amish country to find some beautiful mums & pumpkins. We love this tradition and seeing the slower pace of life. Not to mention the prices are top tier compared to any other pumpkin patch!
The bulk spices and ingredients are always so fun to explore- you never know what you’ll find!
Such a fun morning spent stepping away. What is your favorite fall tradition?

Everyone told me not to wash this vintage quilt, but I did it anyway. 😬👇
When I brought this beautiful piece of history home, it had decades of mystery stains, a ton of dust, and that classic “old attic” smell.
The internet told me: “Don’t touch it.” “You’ll ruin the stitching.” “Never submerge a vintage quilt!”
But I knew it couldn’t stay the way it was if it was ever going to be used and loved again. Vintage textiles are delicate, but with the right formula, temperature, and a lot of patience, you can bring them back to life without destroying the hand-stitching.
The water at the end was absolutely shocking. 🤢 Clear proof that it needed a deep rescue!

💐and that’s on having my doctorate but choosing to be a homeschooling SAHM.

Of course there are many other reasons and factors that make this the best fit for our family- but time freedom to soak in little moments like today is such a gift.

🍎You know Fall has officially arrived when I start making all things apple (+ pumpkin) Cannot recommend trying new recipes enough! I’ve been so intimidated by apple fritters for a long time- but decided to give them a shot this morning & WOW! (Aside from one extra crispy casualty 😅)
What is on your fall baking list? Something you’re planning on trying for the first time? I’d love more recipes to try!

🫧Mid-week bathroom refresh is a MUST in our house. We all know that the bathroom 🚽 is one of the least sought after jobs on the chore list- but with the proper products- cleaning 🧽 can feel less daunting.
You know I love a low-tox swap- but bowl cleaner has been one I’ve been holding out on for a long time. We switched to Dirty Labs Probiotic toilet bowl cleaner a while back and have been pleasantly surprised by how effective it is. The foaming probiotic formula does all the heavy lifting for you and continues to work in between cleaning!

🔥The ultimate Cozy Meal 🥘 that comes together quickly with surprisingly minimal effort. This has all the things you love about a traditional pot pie- yummy filling with veggies and chicken- with a flavor packed topping of the cheddar biscuits- makes it a perfect twist on a classic.

For the filling:
3 TBSP Butter
1/2 onion finely chopped
2 gloves minced garlic
(Cook down in large oven-safe skillet- I use my cast iron)
Add 1/3 c flour & make a roux
To the roux add 2 cups chicken broth
1.5 cups milk (or heavy cream for extra richness)
2 cups cooked chicken diced or shredded (can use rotisserie chicken for an even easier meal)
1 cup diced carrots
1 cup diced celery
(You can use whatever veggies you prefer- but this is what my family eats)
1/2 tsp each of salt, pepper, thyme
Mix everything together and bake at 400 for 15 min while you make the biscuits
For the biscuits:
2 cups flour
1 TBSP Baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 stick melted butter
1 cup milk
1.5 cups medium cheddar cheese shredded (always use block cheese that you shred yourself for best flavor!)
Mix all ingredients together & then scoop onto baked filling- return to the oven at 400 for an additional 15 minutes or until the biscuits are cooked through
