Philanthropy Friday🐱

This week, JMR's giving efforts focused on two causes that are especially important to us: helping local families access food and supporting animals while they wait for their forever homes.

At the Rockaway Valley United Methodist Church in Boonton, we donated a large supply of organic rice varieties. Rice is one of those pantry staples that can stretch a long way, making it a practical and versatile item for families relying on community food assistance.

We also made donations to both the Montville Animal Shelter and the Parsippany Animal Shelter. Between the two shelters, we provided cat litter, kitten milk replacer, flea treatment, probiotic supplements, and premium food for kittens and adult cats. These organizations work hard every day to care for vulnerable animals, and we're glad to help provide some of the supplies that keep them healthy and comfortable.

It's been a busy week of giving, and we're grateful for the opportunity to support organizations making a difference in our local communities.

We have a new face representing JMR in the community, and he happens to be covered in fur!

Meet Benny, J.M. Rodgers’ official therapy dog. Not something you hear every day from a duty drawback and customs brokerage company, but we couldn’t be more excited about it!

Benny is a one-year-old golden retriever who recently passed his therapy dog certification exam after completing training sponsored by J.M. Rodgers alongside his handler, Ellie Schraft. Starting this month, the two of them will begin visiting hospitals, schools, libraries, nursing homes, and other community spaces throughout the area.

At JMR, philanthropy has always been a huge part of our culture, and this felt like such a meaningful way to connect with people in a more personal way. Therapy dogs can have a real impact on people’s emotional well-being, helping reduce stress, ease anxiety, encourage social connection, and simply bring comfort during difficult moments. Whether it’s a child reading at the library, someone spending time in the hospital, or a senior in a nursing home, even a short visit from a therapy dog can completely change the tone of someone’s day. We’re excited for Benny to start making that kind of impact in the community.

Keep an eye out for Benny on our LinkedIn and social media pages as he begins his visits and starts making people smile! And let us know in the comments where you think Benny should visit next.

This Memorial Day, we’re remembering and honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. 🇺🇸

As we spend the day with family and friends, we’re also taking time to reflect on the meaning behind the holiday and the service and sacrifice of so many. From all of us at J.M. Rodgers, we wish everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Philanthropy Friday 🫒

This week, JMR made stops at both the Denville Food Pantry and the Parsippany Food Pantry, helping stock shelves with a mix of healthy, everyday staples.

At Denville Town Hall, we donated a large supply of organic extra-virgin olive oil to the Denville Food Pantry. It’s a simple ingredient, but one that gets used all the time and helps families put together healthier meals at home.

Over in Parsippany, we dropped off organic peanut butter, snack bars, and crackers at the Parsippany Food Pantry at the Senior Center. These are the kinds of items that are easy to grab, easy to store, and helpful to have on hand for both families and seniors relying on pantry support.

Both pantries do a lot for the local community, and we’re happy to help keep some good staples on the shelves.

This Week’s Supply Chain News Roundup: Freight markets and supply chain conditions continue to shift as transportation costs, geopolitical risks, and capacity constraints impact global trade.

Air cargo spot rates surged 30% in April as constrained capacity and ongoing disruptions pressured pricing across key lanes. At the same time, plastic packaging suppliers are warning of rising resin costs and petrochemical disruption tied to the Iran conflict.

On the compliance side, CBP has approved approximately $35 billion in tariff refunds tied to invalidated duties, while tighter U.S. trucking conditions are beginning to challenge low-inventory supply chain strategies. Ocean container spot rates also continue to rise despite expectations for softer demand later in the year.

These shifts are creating new challenges for companies balancing transportation costs, inventory strategy, and operational flexibility.

Philanthropy Friday 🍚

This week, JMR donated a large supply of organic rice varieties to Rockaway Valley United Methodist Church in Boonton, which helps support local families through community outreach and food assistance programs. The organization works closely with residents in the area to help provide dependable access to food and other everyday necessities.

Rice is one of those staples that can go a long way in a household, which made it a practical item to donate in bulk. All of the rice varieties were organic, continuing our focus on providing food that’s nutritious, versatile, and easy to build meals around.

Many importers are unknowingly leaving substantial duty refunds unclaimed.

This article highlights real-world duty drawback cases where companies recovered millions of dollars through properly structured drawback programs and export recovery strategies. Examples include:

• More than $7 million in annual refunds
• Multi-million dollar recoveries tied directly to imported and exported merchandise
• Improved cash flow through duty recovery opportunities many companies overlook

For companies importing goods into the U.S. and later exporting or destroying them, duty drawback can provide refunds of up to 99% of certain duties, taxes, and fees paid to CBP.

In today’s tariff environment, understanding duty drawback is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers, distributors, and importers.

This Week’s Supply Chain News Roundup Freight markets and trade policy continue to shift as fuel volatility and geopolitical tensions impact global supply chains.

Smaller ocean carriers are reducing Transpacific capacity as weak spot rates pressure independent operators, while the Trump administration has given the EU a July 4 deadline to implement trade deal commitments or face potentially higher tariffs.

At the same time, jet fuel costs surged 56% in March, contributing to rising transportation costs across air cargo markets, and renewed U.S.–Iran hostilities are pushing oil prices higher and increasing concern around future fuel-related surcharges.

These developments highlight how closely trade policy, fuel markets, and transportation pricing remain connected across global logistics networks.
