A common mistake with summer in Europe: waiting until spring to start planning.

By then you are often choosing from what is left. Here is why I like to start the fall before.

June through August is high season in most of Europe. More travelers, higher prices, and the most demand for the best rooms.

Most major U.S. airlines open their schedules about 11 months ahead. That means many summer 2027 flights are already on sale today.

European river cruise ships are small. Most carry fewer than 200 guests, so there are only so many balcony cabins on any one sailing.

And every piece depends on the others. The flight has to line up with the ship or the first hotel, and the hotels have to line up with the trains.

When we start now, you get first pick of all of it.

If your dates can move, late May and September are often less crowded and a little cooler. That is worth a conversation too.
