Fairfax Connector workers to hold press conference to update on contract talks & impending strike, 11am , Thursday, Feb. 20
Fair Oaks Marriott — 11787 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy, Fairfax, VA

Fairfax, VA - ATU Local 1764 Transdev workers at Fairfax Connector will hold a press conference at 11 am on Thursday, February 20, to provide an update on negotiations and an impending strike. The press conference will take place in front of the hotel where negotiations are taking place — the Fair Oaks Marriott located at 11787 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway in Fairfax, VA.

On Monday, after almost three more months of fruitless contract negotiations with Transdev - the foreign corporation picked by the County to run the Fairfax Connector service for a profit - the more than 600 Fairfax Connector workers began to prepare for a second possible unfair labor practice strike.

This would be the third union strike against Transdev’s bad faith bargaining since last October. During prior strikes, the workers received strong support from riders, allies and elected officials.

Fairfax Connector workers plan to provide normal bus service on Thursday morning.

‘I’m ticked off’: Northern Virginia leaders demand action as bus strikes continue | WTOP

“You’re my friends and colleagues, but I’m ticked off,” Fairfax County Supervisor John Cook said at Thursday’s meeting of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission. He was directing his comments at members of the commission who also sit on Metro’s board of directors.

“You have failed to do your job, which is to have the WMATA board consider, and I believe, declare, that your contractor is in breach [of contract]. My folks can’t ride the bus because you won’t do your job, and it’s not acceptable,” Cook said.
