Another great trip (and great folks) in the books as August winds down for us. September bicycle madness in Ohio is upon us and our schedule is loading up quickly.

I always laugh when a rider calls to book a September trip and they think they have a new idea or plan to ride this particular month that no one else ever considered or thought of. Most of the time, our "original; thoughts" on most any topic are not really original as someone else likely considered it too.

Well, it's really no secret that September is a great time to be out and about in our beautiful state. It is a busy time, for sure, and we do our best to keep up. There are still a few slots available so please call to review thoughts if a shuttle makes sense for you.

Happy Trails

Exceptional bike shuttle this week originating in my hometown of Akron Ohio-the former Rubber Capital of the World. I grew up just slightly south of Akron and most of my younger days were spent in and around this city.

It's a quiet but clean place these days and I did have a client, earlier this season, absolutely enamored with it and desiring to return to learn more.

Anyway, this is an old industrial city that was part of this country's Industrial Revolution. Many cross roads here. Today, visitors have many interesting things to see and do from a historical perspective and otherwise. We don't have space to go through all the details but do check it out as part of your journey in Ohio. . It's a great old city.

While in Akron, be sure to check in Berrodin Bed & Breakfast
This was my first chance to meet Louie, a friend of the shuttle, and it was a nice visit. His website is very detailed containing quite a bit of good information. He is an incredible local resource that can certainly add value to any visit to Akron. It appears the business has a charitable outlet as well so supporting it will do good things in this community. Seems like a great spot to spend a day or more if a B&B makes sense for you.

September is fast approaching so if a shuttle is on your mind, feel free to call and chat.

Riders on our beautiful trail were disrupted by a few severe storms passing through central Ohio early this week. A few of our clients. and likely others too, rode for cover or sought refuge along the route as these violent fronts passed.

The southern end of CBUS was hit particularly hard with what was reported to be a EF1 Tornado. A few other burgs were torn up pretty good too.

After working through the carnage in the areas affected, the ride was very good and many smiles and happy thoughts about Ohio ensued. Sometimes a little drama adds to the memories and most of the time everyone works through just fine. It's part of it and you just have to move forward.

Anyway, cheers to the final days of summer. Schools are starting up this coming week, and thoughts of Fall are on our minds. We have openings in September so if a bike shuttle makes sense for you, please call to review your ideas.

We welcome August with a few bike shuttles of course! A bit of stormy stuff passed through as is not uncommon this late summer season. Weather can be a bit hot and cranky and this year is no exception.

Whatever you are faced with-the best advice available is to JUST SEND IT. Work through it and everything typically works out fine. Sometimes when it's not perfect it's just right.

Thanks to Mr. Turner, our back-up shuttle driver, for managing the shuttle business this week as Zipi was on holiday with the family. It's great to have a good guy like him on your team! The clients seem to resonate well with him too as he is a seasoned cyclist traversing trails nationwide on a regular basis with many interesting stories and insights.

We did have a few exceptional groups this week that were tons of fun! Some even made up their own shirts for the occasion! The people and experiences are what make this job fun and we are blessed to have good clients that keep us motivated.

Cheers to another week of adventures!

Happy Friday!

July wrappped up on a positive note and we welcome August! Usually this late summer season represents the LOW season for the shuttle and this year is no exeception. We are often asked why this is the case and most assume its related to the heat. That's probably true to some extent but I think there is likely more to the story.

Once July 4th passes the summer seems to move into high gear and race toward Fall. Most of us are scrambling and working on those projects, family vacations or other activities that need to work in before summer dissappears. Its a busy time preparing for the fast approaching Fall and I think folks have other things on their mind outside of bike riding.

Fall is often an annual "reset" for many of us and is often considered the "New Year" as it marks the beginning of school terms (

Clients wrapping up or returning with us earlier this week had a pretty good time here in our beautiful State of Ohio. No complaints registered and smiles all around.

Stopped by Findlay Market for a Fish Burrito at Mama Lo Hizo and an Arnold Palmer. Wow, one of my favorite lunches of all time! Terrific.

In other news and on a rather down note-

Our collective smiles turned upside down as the week unfolded and we were somewhat blindsided and literally blinded by the intense wildfire smoke pushing down across the lake. Probably some of the worst conditions we have had in recent years. Ohio was hit hard. The Cincinnati area was in the best shape but Columbus moving North was progressively dismal.

You may notice a group of bikes with no people in the photo. Those were rentals that were returned early as the party abandoned their tour northbound early. This has never happened to us before and was very surreal and sad.

Let's hope these fires can get under control or our fabled SW winds (jetstream) can rescue us or provide occasional relief from this mess. Occasionally is probably the best we can get over the next week -

Air Quality Conditions will be somewhat variable this week as winds are shifting around. The last couple days have been a bit better; however, as the week unfolds, we do expect some back and forth regarding air quality.

If you are embarking on a tour this week, probably best to carry some type of respiratory protection as the airborne particulate is best kept out of your system.

Let's hope this clears up soon.

Sometimes "NORMAL" is great. Regarding weather conditions this past week in Ohio - Well, fairly normal overall. The heat dome is past and temps have returned to typical July levels. Pop us storms, sometimes heavy, can occur most anytime and that's just part of being out and about this season. I seldom check the forecast too much as some rain/stormy stuff is inevitable somewhere.

Rain gear is generally too uncomfortable now so probably best left in the drawer as a little spritz can be refreshing at times and provides excitement for the journey.

We are plugging along and enjoying this mid season with some very special clients that make this work so meaningful. Its a people business and the interactions and conversations is fuel for the shuttle and motivation to keep at it!

September has openings available so feel free to connect and chat about your ideas if a bike shuttle makes sense for you.

Cheers to mid-summer!

Cheers to ALL OF US as we celebrate 250 years of independence! We have a lot to be thankful for as life is very good for us here in the USA. These many trails in the USA, especially those in Ohio, are particularly worthy of praise.

It's been a terrific week, here in Ohio, to be tooling around on a bicycle. Many of our clients, this week, were returning from their rides on the OTET so I was able to gather a few insights and all were unanimous in declaring that this was an outstanding experience that met or exceeded expectations! We totally agree! Ohio certainly has much to offer and those visiting for the first time find themselves planning a return visit to investigate other areas! I had one client absolutely taken and fascinated with the city of Akron! Others enjoy Canal Fulton, Mt. Vernon or Loveland. It's all good!

Once in a while, it's not as great -

Sometimes a little wrench gets thrown into the works and that is underway currently. You never know what you will get when planning a trip, months in advance, and the current situation is unfortunate. All you can do is the best that you can but it is tough. If you are out there now, I don't have to tell you that things are rough.

We do have the "heat dome" affecting the entire state currently. Zipi HQ registered a 98 degrees yesterday. High 90's prevail with heat indexes up to 105 degrees all across the state. If you are out there now- please do be extra careful and take many breaks. If anything feels a little out of sorts-STOP. Heat exhaustion can and does sneak up on all of us in conditions like this. It's no joke. We have been on the scene for rescues in this environment. Try to find a way to cool your body down.

Hop in lakes and streams to cool down if it makes sense for you. Find a garden hose. Ask someone for help in cooling down. A soak will cool your body down. Whatever it takes - Don't allow yourself to overheat, it's very dangerous and we have seen it before.

Often it's not the daytime highs that get us as much as the nighttime lows. It's just not cooling down much and this is a real bummer especially if you are camping.

The good news -

This situation seems to be temporary and the heat dome is scheduled to dissipate by Sunday. The outlook appears more normal moving forward. However, it's going to be a rough ride for those out there now.

Onward and upward! Cheers to those working through it.

The epic month of June in Ohio continues! We did have a BIG BLOW pass through the state mid-week that dropped an inch on the northern half and about 3 inches on the southern. Most of it passed during the late hours so I expect minimal disruptions for most. In fact, those heavy SW winds likely propelled a few headed to CLE this week. Sometimes you get a push and sometimes you don't- but, this week, it was good for the north bounders without a doubt!

The winds were high as the front passed and the Baro dropped pretty good too. Those on the trail this past week may have noticed increased animal activity as a LOW pressure system tends to stir up wildlife. Another front is about to hit us tonight, as I post this, and it will be wet for those riding monday.

Ran into a pretty big Black Rat Snake. This one was a few miles below Xenia. He was a big fella and I am always amazed at how they like to seemingly play dead. This one was prompted to get the heck off the trail for his safety.

My good fortune continued this week as I was able to rack up another 90 miles on the Prairie Grass, Heart of Ohio and Kokosing Gap Trails! It's great when an opportunity allows me to add my bike to the shuttle mix!

If you are passing through Cedarville, you have to stop by and say hello to Ruth and/or Stewart. Hearthstone Inn & Suites (Cedarville, Ohio) And if you stop there then certainly you must stop by the Beans and Cream for lunch or other goodies.

Pulled into. More Space at Your Place For a few trail souvenirs while passing through Centerburg including a trail sign that I have now mounted in my Garage.

Pretty good week, I would say!

If a bike shuttle makes sense for you, let me know!

Cheers.

Another great week of cycling adventures for those traversing the great State of Ohio this past week! Conditions are generally great and extremely favorable although we are now entering the season when things start warming up a bit more. This does bring a bit of turbulence as fronts push through. Pop-up storms can form overhead and are not overly predictable beyond a 12- hour window. Wind directions are also often variable as part of these passing systems. You never know what you will get and that makes this an adventure!

Never allow the weather prognosticators to alter your bike trip. (They create unnecessary worry, worst case scenarios and negative vibes, and most situations turn out far more favorable than the prediction) Rather- JUST SEND IT and deal with whatever may occur as it unfolds. It's part of the memories and adds to the excitement.

Zipi managed to get in a ride on the Ohio River/Little Miami sections this Friday, after a shuttle, and it was a delight to get in on the action! Looking forward to my next opportunity to join the fun!

Cheers to our wonderful, gracious and generous clients that are exemplifying the cyclist spirit by Just Sending it! I love to hear the stories of value adding time well spent here in our beloved state of Ohio.

Happy Trails!
