This morning was a busy tornado of stuff getting the shop destroyed so I can get the axle off the table and under the frame. Then getting the shop back together and centering the axle and setting wheel base. I’ve set on 107” that’s 3” longer than the wagons stock wheelbase. And should accommodate 32’s - 33’s perfectly I’ll likly split the stretch at 2” forward and 1” rearward. That way if I need to open the rear wheel wells it’ll be just the rear side making the patching easier. Next up are links then I’ll flip the frame around and do the front track bar and drag link. I still need to source a jk steering box for that part. Then it’s time to put body on frame.

Since we last made a real post about wagon updates a good amount have been done. Rear Barnes 4WD frame brackets were welded on. Then the axle was pulled out of the weeds and put on the table so I could put the Barnes mounts on it. This is an mis matched set of mounts to achieve what im shooting for. These mounts made the process super simple even with my special flares and them not being meant for this axle.

It was out last day and we were doing out best to hit the state line by 5:30 because homes 4ish hours into California from I40 at the boarder with no traffic and I much rather drive that stretch when it’s cooling down. We were able to get to cool springs before they closed a great little shop! We stopped in Oatman for a while and saw the two new baby burros then hit the loves on I40 for a full tank before heading back into commiefornia. We rolled into home at just before 10pm the trip odometer said just over 1300 miles. (And yes it’s calibrated) another year and another great trip with this sequoia! Not a normal trip for her but she did flawlessly.

This at one point was a service station and motor lodge. Out the back was the canyon and it appeared the rooms overlooked the canyon. I’m sure it was a nice place to stay after a long day of driving across the arizona desert!

This bridge is so epic! It’s from 1914 making it 112 years old and on one of Route 66’s original alignments! The canyon below was rather deep and green so their must be some water down there but I couldn’t see and water flowing or pools from anywhere that I looked down.

Once we left the petrified forest we were on the hunt for a jack rabbit and an old zoo we found both and that’s just where the exploring begun in two guns!

The Next morning we left Holbrook and went into the petrified forest. The only national park to have Route 66 in it. So cool to see the petrified trees everywhere and all the painted desert we could see from here. Looking forward to seeing more of the painted desert on another trip. This was the turning point of this trip at 600ish miles from our starting point not counting our side quests it’s been a good trip from here back we’ll hit the places we missed on our way back and see what other history we can find.
