We’re patiently waiting for these babies to hatch and take their first flight ✈️

Every spring through late summer, SAN creates protected nesting areas for the California Least Tern, an endangered species since 1972.

Not too far from the runway, the birds nest on 🐚oyster shells collected from the Chula Vista Nature Center. Each nesting season is different, and it’s always exciting to see how many terns return and how many nests and eggs appear.

This year, SAN has three nests and five eggs, all being monitored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, biologists, and our environmental staff.

Stay tuned for photos of the tiny chicks once they hatch!

SAN has a very special bartender whose been with the airport for 40 years! Jimmy Truong started his career with bartending at the old Terminal 1. Since then, he’s served a lot of Bloody Marys (his most requested drink) and seen a lot of passengers, celebrities and athletes come through. He says he’s stayed this long because he’s been in good company.

You can get a drink from him at PGA Tour Grill in T2, where he proudly wears a shirt that designates him as a bartender in the 40-year club.

Thank you for you dedication Jimmy!

What does home feel like in motion?

For the past three months, our Spring 2026 performing arts resident, .step.beyond , has been exploring that question with SAN passengers.

Experience the stories they collected and the dances they created honoring those making a home in on May 7 and 14, from 4–5 p.m. in Terminal 1. SAN.org/events

This is a special for SAN as one of our very own ambassadors, Don Bruder, takes off from San Diego to Washington, D.C. 🇺🇸

Don and his Whippet therapy dog Patches have been a source of positivity for our passengers, and we’re grateful he’s taking part in this meaningful experience. Don will join fellow veterans in visiting the memorials, with a particular stop at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Safe travels, Don, we’ll be happy to welcome you home!

About Don’s service:
Don was in one of the last civilian groups drafted during the Vietnam War. Fluent in German, he was stationed in Munich, Germany, with the U.S. Army, and later in Dachau, where he worked as an interpreter and clerk at a medical facility overlooking the road that once led Holocaust prisoners from the train stop to the camp.

“As a Jewish Holocaust survivor, it was deeply difficult to reconcile that reality. I often reflected on how many members of my own family and extended relatives may have walked that very path. It took many years for me to come to terms with the weight of that experience.”
