Did you know there are glaciers at 20,000 feet above sea level in Africa?

Mount Kilimanjaro’s iconic glaciers are ancient, highly fragile remnants of the last Ice Age. Located in Tanzania near the equator, they consist primarily of the Northern and Southern Ice Fields and the rapidly retreating Furtwängler Glacier.

The glaciers may be totally gone within the next 20-50 years 🤯 we were so fortunate to see them!

Who has Yellowstone on the bucket list for this summer?! Paint pots, geysers, bison, bears, canyons, this park really has it all! As a result it's usually insanely busy in the summer months so plan ahead!

1. Start EARLY - we went over 4th of July weekend and started our day in the park at about 5 am

2. Have a plan - winging in this park can be hard due to crowds and the park is large.

3. Visit the lesser-known part of the park to the north and east (plus there some good ice cream outside the east gate)

4. Bring your meals! Saves time on waiting in line and you can get better views with a picnic!

There are so many other islands than Bali in Indonesia that are all amazing and special in their own way!

Komodo island can be accessed by day trip staying on Labuan Bajo and here you get to see wild Komodo dragons 🐉 and so much sea life!

These beauties are Giant Sequoias and they are so big you have to see them in person!

Summer hiking season is here!

Some tips:

1. Download maps - we love even though their mileage isn't always on point 😆

2. Electrolytes + water! Whether you're adding some salt to your water or powders like .ingredients make sure you add some for the summer heat!

3. Alpine starts - for the mountains this is key to avoid after weather above tree line.

4. Rain gear - always good for those times the weather doesn't cooperate 🤪

5. Hiking poles! These things have saved our knees on the up and downhills and are one of the reasons we can do such long mileage days!

Getting to spend 4 hours with wild gorillas is hands down one of the coolest experiences we have ever had.

Trekking to find them is an absolute blast, bushwhacking through the forest up steep hills and you definitely want to be in decent physical shape to be able to keep up! Wild gorillas don't have boundaries or a fence line, so you'll go where they go. Sometimes that's not very far, other times it's miles!

Once you find them, sitting with them, watching them, you'll get to experience gorillas like never before and see so many interesting behaviors. Sometimes they walk by you and push you out of the way, sometimes they slide down trees like little oompah-loompahs. You'll see the tremendous similarities between us and them, it almost feels surreal.

5 Amazing things about this Island Destination!

1. Some of the largest caves in the world are located here in Mulu National Park.

2. Home of Wild Orangutans and Pygmy Elephants!

3. You can go on a River Safari to look for the Borneo Big 5.

4. You can visit a historic Headhunter Village turned museum.

5. The Food Markets in Kota Kinabalu are really authentic and have some SPICY 🌶️ food!

Hidden viewpoint: you can certainly take the normal trail to the wooden lookout and get beautiful pictures there but off to the left-hand side there is a more hidden trail that will take you to a rocky overlook where you can capture a different angle and get more of the lake with mountain views in the backdrop. Save for your next trip to Banff!
