Ever wonder why the heart of Little Italy runs along a street called India Street? It's a leftover name from the 1850s, before a single Italian family arrived.
Here's the thing, San Diego renames streets all the time. Broadway was once D Street. Market Street used to be H Street. So why not this one?
Over 6,000 Italian families built this neighborhood and made San Diego the tuna capital of the world. They deserve a main street that honors their legacy.
Our idea: Via Pescatore, "Fisherman's Way," a tribute to the Genoese and Sicilian fishing families who built Little Italy together. One name, honoring every family, united by the sea that brought them here.
So here's our challenge to the neighborhood: if enough of us care, let's gather in the piazza one day and vote on it together. And we're calling on the Little Italy Association, hear your community and put it to an official vote!
What do you think? Vote Via Pescatore below, drop your own idea in the comments, and share with a fellow Little Italy lover. Let's give this neighborhood the name it's earned!
