We care deeply about the health and safety of all our riders. Following CDC and Utah Department of Health guidelines, UTA now requires all riders and employees in Salt Lake County to a wear face mask or covering, in addition to practicing social distancing.

These changes take effect Saturday, June 27, 2020 for Salt Lake County, in compliance with the Salt Lake County Health Order issued on June 26, 2020 requiring face coverings to be worn in public spaces.

On July 1, 2020, UTA will require all riders and employees system-wide to wear face masks or coverings until further notice. More information and details about the July 1 system-wide mask requirement will be shared early next week.

Today's #ThrowbackThursday features one of our favorite modes of transit - the bus! The first photo is from thirty years ago in 1990, and the second is from last year. UTA buses have been running for fifty years now, and each passing year brings changes and improvements. How long have you been riding the bus? We'd love to hear from you in the comments below.

The UTA Board of Trustees was saddened to hear about the recent passing of former Mayor JoAnn Seghini of Midvale. For decades, Mayor Seghini was a true visionary and leader in expanding transit along the Wasatch Front. Back in the 1990s, Mayor Seghini was on the Midvale City Council and subsequently the Mayor while UTA was planning and building the TRAX Blue Line in Salt Lake County, Utah’s first light rail line. Her support was critical in the development of the system and transit stations in Midvale, as well as the TRAX maintenance facility in Midvale.

Mayor Seghini’s commitment to transit didn’t end with that first TRAX line. In the early 2000s, when the Wasatch Front Regional Council was preparing an update to the Long Range Transportation Plan, Mayor Seghini raised her hand during a discussion and said “we need more transit in this plan.” That action on her part rallied more support and led to the formation of two committees comprised of local elected officials. One committee was chartered to identify the recommended projects, the other committee was tasked to identify funding opportunities.

The result of these efforts was a bold plan to build 30 years of rail in by 2015. With the continued support of Mayor Seghini and other local elected officials, this ultimately led to the 2006 sales tax referendum led by the Salt Lake Chamber. The referendum initially included the additional four TRAX extension projects in Salt Lake County – the Red Line to Daybreak, the Green Line extensions to West Valley and the Salt Lake International Airport, and the Blue Line extension to Draper – and then Utah County joined the referendum to extend FrontRunner to Provo. Known as the FrontLines 2015 program, construction on all five projects began in 2008 and was completed in August 2013.

Even with the FrontLines 2015 program underway, Mayor Seghini continued to be a champion for transit and advocate for more and better bus service in her community. In her city of Midvale she partnered with UTA to implement service and routing that served key destinations, particularly those that served the elderly and disadvantaged communities.

On behalf of the UTA Board of Trustees, Executive Director and all of the agency’s employees, we extend our deepest sympathies to Mayor Seghini’s family at this time. We will always remember her support and determination, and her contribution to transit along the Wasatch Front will always remain part of her extraordinary legacy.

UTA recently conducted an agency-wide internal food drive for multiple food banks throughout our service area. Our employees donated 972 pounds of food to the Utah Food Bank, which will assist their work in providing 810 meals to Utahans throughout the state. Additional food was donated to the Salvation Army, Community Action Utah County, and Catholic Community Services.

Pictured are UTA employees at our Mt. Ogden and Timpanogos offices who helped with the food drive.

Thought there was an "out of order" sign by the plugs. Turned out to be some graffiti.
My mom worked for UTA several years ago. Is there a place to buy an UTA frontrunner shirt?
On the southbound train this morning, onne of your train hosts gave me this nifty lens cleaning cloth with a UTA map printed on it. I didn't catch his name, but that was pretty cool of him.
UTA transit, Seattle. The 67 line going from Northgate to U District. This is the stop at 45th and Roosevelt, at 4:41pm, June 15, 2020. This picture was taken as the public service announcement played, clearly stating everyone on the bus was to wear a mask. She was also coughing and yawning next to her open window which was circulating air through the bus. I have others putting this on Twitter as well. Do something about this, and let us know you have. This deserves some kind of penalty.
67 line from Northgate to the U District, 4:41 pm today, June 15, 2020. This is one of your drivers, while the public service announcement stating that ALL persons on the bus must wear a mask clearly played, moments after she yawned and coughed without covering her mouth, next to her open window which was circulating air through the bus. This is not ok.
So I was on the 67 bus, headed into the U District today (coming from Northgate) and as your public service announcement played, CLEARLY STATING THAT EVERYONE ON THE BUS WAS TO BE WEARING A MASK, your driver was yawnimg with her puth wide open, and no mask. Again it was the 67 line, going from Northgate to the U District. This was the stop at 45th and Roosevelt, at 4:41pm today, June 15, 2020. Can you please do something about this? We already have to police crazy people picking their scabs and flicking it on those in front of them (I've stopped this from happening, twice) as well as other seriously dangerous and inappropriate actions, but this? This is is just straight up NOT ok.
So if UTA wants to provide transportation to everybody, where in blazes is my 470 route that I need from bountiful so I can get to work on time? I'm sure we're all tired of waiting until their next change day in August to fix their screw-ups.
Today is a milestone for me. 22 years ago I started on a journey that I had no idea would last this long. Today marks my 22nd year as a bus operator. I have been through and have seen alot. I am the only one left in my training class. I have seen many great, and not so great, people come and go. For the most part this has been a great company to work for. I have made many friendships over the years. I have shared alot of laughs and shed several tears with friends that I have made who are both drivers and passengers. I have been at this job so long, I have seen people go from a newborn to having children of their own. What makes me keep coming back is the people. The great people I work with both in Operations and Administration. Thank you for all of the great memories. To my Union brothers and sisters thank you for allowing me to represent you. To my passengers, thank you for your stories, for your laughter and your tears. I have learned so many lessons about life and it has made me a better person. Thank you for all that you have done! Heres to many more years to come!
Places are going back to normal hours so when will the bus be back to a normal schedule
why are the bus drivers not wearing masks?
Pretty cool picture.
The majority of Utah is going in. the yellow phase on Saturday. You should get back to a normal bus schedule now
