Are you the betting type? I personally am not, unless playing dress-up is involved. 👗 After all, dress-up certainly is a wonderful way to spark childhood joy. 👧🏼✨

📣 Attention Parents!

Single, coupled, multiple children, or just one… this message is for you.

If you know me, you know I love to travel solo. However, in 2022 I discovered a new love and that’s traveling one-on-one with my boys.

Life as we know it is busy, challenging and fast. (And I know first hand that solo parenting acts as a multiplier!) I have found that this one-on-one time together is an opportunity to build our schedule intentionally, simplify the stressors around us and slow down to enjoy one another. Many of the elements that I also enjoy about solo travel.

Here are some of the highlights I enjoyed on my recent trip to rural Mexico with my youngest son.
📍 Gerrero, Mexico

INDIVIDUALITY
As the youngest of two, I can see how valuable time away from his big brother can me. This time nurtures his sense of individuality, confidence, and sense of self.

My youngest is a comedian. It was such a pleasure to watch him enjoy center stage for the entire week. His witty remarks and contagious sense of humor are something else!

MOM’S VALUES
“Mom, isn’t that a sunset beautiful?”
I love that my children see what big joy the little things in life bring me. This is a skill I intentionally developed through my divorce because it helped me release my attachment to the pain of my experience and bring joy back into my daily life.

CONNECTION
Research tells us that one of the key factors that builds resilience in young people is a sense of being connected to adults. This special time with my son allowed me to give him my undivided attention. We made up and played games that we created together. We sat side by side and drew pictures of the beautiful scenery around us. He reached out and held my hand when me wanted to feel even closer. 🥰

Being playful is a vital piece to living a full life!

Who says that once you become a mother, father, boss, or hardworking employee that you no longer get to have fun?

No matter your level of productivity today - you are worthy of feeling joy and happiness.

Here are 4 tips for being more playful as an adult so you can fully enjoy the life you've worked so hard to create:

1. Seek out reasons to laugh and smile as much as possible
2. Try something new with zero expectations
3. Check in with yourself frequently and ask, how could I make this more enjoyable for myself?
4. Move your body as often as possible

Traveling to a new destination is a time to let loose and PLAY.

It's easy to get excited and pack more than you need.

Skip the extra weight and stick to the essentials so you can stay focused on the fun!

Here are my go-to essentials for any destination:

Versatile wardrobe - neutral colors can easily be mixed and match, so no matter what you're doing that day, you'll have staple pieces to choose from. Check the weather shortly before you leave and keep a light jacket on hand that can be layered with a variety of looks.

Sturdy shoes - one of the most exciting things to do in a new city is explore on foot! Bring a pair of functional shoes that can withstand thousands of steps each day.

Accessories - not only for aesthetic, but function! A cross body bag and a sun hat are go-to items that you can wear while you travel, no matter what adventure you're getting into that day.

If you notice you're starting to overpack, ask yourself: can I buy this item anywhere in the world?

If the answer is yes, then don't stress it!

Of course it is smart to be prepared, but we often don't use half of the things we put in our suitcase.
