US-212 Travel Restriction

Please be advised that significant travel impacts are expected along US 212 (from the Wyoming border near Alzada, MT to Crow Agency, MT) due to a large, organized horse ride event. Carriers should anticipate closures and travel restrictions during the event and plan alternate routes accordingly.

VMS messaging will be in place in South Dakota, Billings, Crow Agency, Miles City, and several local areas. The VMS signs will advise all CMV’s to use an alternate route and no oversize or overweight loads allowed on US 212. This is in effect for term permits as well.

The event is scheduled for June 16, 2026, through June 28, 2026.

Due to the size of the event and associated traffic impacts, oversize and overweight movements on US 212 will not be permitted to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Additional information regarding specific closures, restrictions, and impacts will be provided as it becomes available.

Please monitor permit notifications and plan accordingly to avoid delays.

We have recently had a few clients get stopped in New Mexico and have their permits voided due to not having the minimum number of flags on their loads. New Mexico changed their policy a while back and they now void permits for any violation of the permit terms and any non compliant carrier will be forced to re-purchase their permit.

"All ports of entry statewide will initiate full enforcement on violations of OS/OW permit conditions. Any violations will result in revocation of the OS/OW permit and a new permit will be required in order to continue the trip. The ports of entry will continue to educate drivers regarding permit compliance and conditions."

Please make sure to review your permit conditions on all permits and, in the case of New Mexico, be sure to have 6 flags before entering their state!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Charlie Kirk's wife and children. He was a great man who spent his short life standing up for what he believed in with dignity and helping America's college-aged generation learn how to think. He will be missed.

If you are planning on traveling across Montana on I-90, keep the Bozeman Pass restriction in mind. This has also been causing horrible traffic backups as well.

I-90 between Bozeman and Livingston from milepost 309 to 319 is restricted to 10 feet wide during the working hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm MST. Loads up to 16 feet wide may travel after 7:00 pm to 7:00 am MST. All other loads must find an alternate route.

Starting September 1, 2025, this project will be a 10-foot width restriction 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until further notice.
