Stop chasing the highest rate per mile. Start chasing the highest profit.
A lot of drivers see a load paying $3.50 per mile and think it’s a great load.
But what if it’s only 150 miles with 4 hours of waiting?
Meanwhile, another load pays $2.25 per mile, runs 700 miles, has no delays, and gets you reloaded the next morning.
Which one actually made you more money?
The best load isn’t always the one with the highest rate per mile. It’s the one that puts the most money in your pocket by the end of the day or week.
✅ Less sitting.
✅ Better reload opportunities.
✅ More productive miles.
✅ More revenue over time.
As a dispatcher, we are always looking at the big picture, not just the number on the rate confirmation.
Would you rather earn $3.50 a mile and sit half the day… or average $2.25 a mile and keep the wheels turning?
I’d love to hear what other owner-operators think.
