Day 4 - When my original itinerary was delayed, I ended up cancelling an overnight trip to UNESCO World Heritage site Český Krumlov since it would have taken two days from an abrievated trip. As a replacement, I ended up booking an expensive, but totally worth it excursion to Terezín which was occupied by the N***s in the 1940s and converted into a ghetto, prison and temporary way station before thousands and thousands of innocent people were sent to the death camps in Poland. It was a haunting visit through and through and something that will stay with me for a long time. After Tezerin, we traveled further north and took in some of the sites of the beautiful Bohemian Switzerland National Park (no, its nowhere near Switzerland). The sandstone cliffs are simply breathtaking and the natural beauty was a small balm of sorts after the darkness of the first part of the tour. My tour guide Pete was a local with deeps roots in the country and endless knowledge, and I was joined by four almost almost teachers from Canada who were there for a 3-week teaching immersion experience at an international school in Prague. Pete also taught for a time during Covid so we often fell into fascinating cross-country educational talks about the state of teaching and living in three different countries. It wasn’t the day I had orignally planned, but it was a truly amazing experience and a perfect last day in Czechia. I also officially visited Germany as well as part of the tour so another country off my list! I can’t recommend the tour more highly if you are ever in the area! Let me know and I can send you the details!

Day 3 was rainy and cold so it was a delayed start. I started the afternoon with some yummy goulash to warm me up and then I joined a “free” city tour of Old Town and the Jewish Quarter - you pay them what you think its worth at the end of the tour. My tour guide was a native Ohioan and our small group included a solo female traveler from Lithuania, a single male traveler from Mumbai and a couple from Romania. I love how travel connects us. In a world that seeks so often to divide us, its a reminder that people are just people at the end of the day, seeking connection and adventure in new places. I ended the day attending a classical musical concert in a historic church. It was haunting and beautiful and definitely worth the evening, even if you are not a classical musical lover! My tour guide assured me that there were some ugly parts of Prague but I never ran across them in my time there. It is stunningly beautiful city and just getting lost in the gorgeous streets is half the fun!

Day 1 and 2 of Prague. I ended up with a tiny cold in transit so I haven’t been moving that fast but I still have managed to walk about 10 miles in the past two days. Prague is absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. The food has been tasty (very meat heavy though, be forewarned!), the weather phenominal and transportation super easy. Yesterday, my travel hangover was real so I kept it easy with a hike over Charles Bridge and a visit to a quiet park in the middle of Lesser Town. Today, I made my way to Prague Castle, one of the biggest working castle complexes in the world. Its definitely a slow travel kind of trip, but I am embracing it. And Prague is a definately an easy city to get lost in, with its beautiful streets and abundant architectural gems!

If there is an iron rule to travel, it is that there will be hiccups. But as many experienced travelers know, in those hiccups lie new adventures. After my original flight plan was derailed by the storm in Dallas (was literally at Hobby at the gate), I ended up flying out the next day. Less legs in the end and ended up with a long layover at Heathrow that gave me an opportunity to pop over to nearby Windsor Castle. The town was beautiful and the Castle complex was fascinating. Moral of the story, roll with the punch and see what adventure lies behind it. It could suprise you!

People always ask why they should use a travel agent?

This is why.

We have a client traveling overseas today. The client had purchased Economy Plus seats but at check-in a very rude gate agent changed her seats and moved her to the last row of the plane for the long haul leg of the trip.

So while the client was in the air on her first leg, we were able to call the airline and get her seat moved back to what she had paid for. This allowed the client to not have to stress while making the plane change once she landed.

Travel agents work for you- especially when things go awry.

Happy travels!
