AFSC was originally a part of a nonprofit established in 1879 to provide support to the widows of The Battle of Little Big Horn. Before there was a Veterans Administration, we were working to make sure veterans and their families were cared for. With the passage of the Social Security Act of 1957, we began true case management for individuals who were separated from the military, retired, and/or dying on active duty. With the passage of the Survivor Benefit Plan in 1972, we began to expand our superior case management organization, to include a focus on life planning, transition services, and survivor benefits for Warriors, Veterans and their Families. Today, AFSC provides world-class strategic consulting and direct support services to programs throughout government and the nonprofit community. For example, AFSC provides case management for the wounded, and for surviving families for all military services. AFSC maintains the only computer system that provides integrated benefits calculations based on individual family data. AFSC's rapid response teams have supported military personnel and leaders through some of the most difficult events in recent history, including the Walter Reed media frenzy, 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Space Shuttle crash, Cole attack, and embassy bombings. AFSC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) focused exclusively on health and human capital.
