Maintenance
Volunteers continue to work hard clearing overgrowth and repairing monsoon washouts. Both the Spence Basin and Bean Peaks trail workdays in August had a good turnout of volunteers, who accomplished a lot. However, the work is far from over, and these areas still need a lot of attention. Please consider contributing your time and effort to help restore the trails and reduce potentially dangerous trail conditions. Beautiful fall weather is upon us; let’s get the trails back in shape so that everyone can thoroughly enjoy at this time of year! Sign up to volunteer here.
If you are unable to volunteer with trail work but would still like to support the trails, please consider making a donation to PMBA. All proceeds go directly to maintaining and building trails.
Construction
The new section of the perimeter trail, Verde Divide, connecting Goldwater/Trail #396 to Bean Peaks Hub 6 is officially open and has signage and a roll over gate.
The Over-the-Hill Gang is still hard at work on a 1.8-mile trail in Stringfield Ranch. The new trail connects the Longview Trail to Trail #341, which will complete the Prescott Circle Trail. It is set to be finished early this fall.
The final construction phase of Bean Peaks will run from November 11th to December 18th! IMBA crews will continue building the climbing trail from Hub 7 to the top of West Bean Peak, along with a black downhill trail to Hub 5. Butter Bean and Refried Beans trails will be closed for maintenance for a portion of the time while the IMBA crews are here.
Once completed, there will be 19 miles of trails in the Bean Peaks gravity flow trail system. The profound generosity of our community, along with the help of state and federal grants, raised over $1.5 million in a bit more than three years to make Bean Peaks a reality. Thousands of hours of volunteer work have helped build and will continue to maintain the trails that we so thoroughly enjoy.
