PRE ORDER UPDATE: SAGUARO 12.75” OUTFIELD GLOVE

Please read everything below:

All the pre-orders are in full production! Many of you guys who placed a pre-order are wondering why it’s taking so long…

After many months of waiting on an order from Horween, I finally received the hides. They averaged about 20 sq. ft. per hide. I ordered more Horween, and the second batch averaged about 17.5 sq. ft. per hide.

Why does this matter?

Leather is a natural product. There are so many square feet on a hide that I can’t use—like the neck, armpit, and belly. Even though I can’t use these parts of the hide, I still pay for the square footage.

It’s pretty standard for a hide to be around 25 sq. ft. Normally, I can make about four gloves per hide. Since these hides are anywhere from 16.5–20 sq. ft., I run into the unusable areas much quicker. The yield is about 2.5 gloves per hide.

Because this is a longer glove, the yield is even lower. This has been the main culprit for the delay. Horween leather is extremely expensive, making this overall launch difficult to get into motion. Moving forward, you’ll be seeing gloves made from other tannery’s.

I’m extremely grateful for your pre-orders! As a one-man outfit, I’m working day and night to get these gloves out. Stay tuned!

4th of July may be over but we’re still parting in the USA.

Designed and colorways by Jerome Davis. Horween navy pocket, Horween red back of the shell. Web, edge binding and hand cut lace made with white ball glove leather.

Fun side fact - most of these American flag patches are made overseas. I sourced these patches from a small, independent embroidery shop in Pennsylvania.

Help me out! Should I offer this 12.75” first base mitt. Right now, they’re entirely hand cut. Offering them on the reg would mean getting clicker dies l! LMK

I hope everyone had an unreal 4th of July! 🇺🇸🎉🎆

Like most holidays, I spent the day in my workshop for more than 13 hours. Completely exhausted, I fell asleep on the couch within 45 minutes of calling it a day. My wife and family rushed to the door, which woke me up. We spent the rest of the evening watching fireworks over the rolling hills behind our backyard. In that moment, I couldn’t have been more thankful for the freedom to chase my dream of making baseball gloves for a living.

It’s not a lot of money for the amount of time, effort, sweat, and blood involved (literally… I accidentally shoved a lacing needle under my fingernail and broke off part of my index fingernail). But it’s a living that is worth every bit of the dream I’m chasing.

Almost a year ago, my family moved to Arizona. In that short amount of time, my workload has skyrocketed like the fireworks from last night.

To all of my customers waiting on one of my handmade gloves, please know that I’m working day and night to get them finished. Thank you for your patience and support.

Lastly, I’d like to introduce my quality control supervisor, Iris. She’s a retired street cat who turned into a nearly perfect saving grace. She came into our lives during a difficult time when my wife was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Iris spends most of her time with Lindsay, but every now and then she comes down to the workshop to check on my progress.

Big early summer update from the MP shop:

After a long 3 month wait, the Horween tan ball glove x leather finally landed! And it’s already moving into production. The 12.75” Saguaro Outfield is now in full swing with new clicker dies in hand, which means some long summer nights ahead getting these turned around. I’ve also got a batch of 11.5” Desert Forge gloves lined up and ready to go with this same leather.

On top of that, the Wild Boar glove leather came in and is currently being split down to right ball glove weight. Once that’s all back from dry splitting, game on to make those!
