Wolverine Pipe Line Company was proud to support the 2026 Joe Expo at St. Joe High School this past Saturday, hosted by the FIRST Team 3620, The Average Joes Robotics Team.

The event provided a great opportunity to introduce students, families, and community members to Wolverine’s SAFE Program and share hands-on education about Pascal’s Law, Bernoulli’s principle, the venturi effect, underground utilities, pipelines, 811, and the role Wolverine plays in safely moving the fuel our communities depend on.

Pipelines are a vital source of support for both rural communities and agriculture by enabling farmers to use buried pipes to safely farm their land (at regular working heights) and to transport fuels and other energy products throughout the United States.

Propane is delivered through these pipelines for heating, cooking, and farming operations, while an agricultural economy uses hundreds of billions of gallons of diesel fuel annually to run trucks, tractors, and combines.

Some underground utility lines are very close to the surface — only inches away — and will be damaged with minimal digging, unless they are located prior to digging.

No matter what your project is (planting a tree, building a fence, or landscaping), contact 811 several days before digging to allow time for utility marking.

Backhoes lead the way when underground utilities are damaged, but shovels follow closely as the second most common source of damage to these lines.

Even though small jobs such as tree planting, mailbox installation, and fence post placement may seem too minor for an outage to occur from damage to an underground line, it is still possible.

It doesn't matter what you are doing; whether your job is big or small, you should call 811 before digging so that all underground utility lines can be located and marked.
