Outlander filming locations - as promised!

I don't know about you, but I love me some James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser, and well, Outlander on the whole. I even named one of our dogs Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser Johnson (so loyal, just like the character) and one of our cats Wee Fergus (sweet and spicy, just like that character)! I feel that qualifies me as a true Outlander fan.

While tripping along through the highlands, Ash and I stopped at quite a few filming locations. Um, we also touched stones. Lots of stones. Touched all the big stones we could find in fact, but as we're still here in 2026 and not in your history books, it's clear neither of us were transported. Fun fact - there are several areas of standing stones but none that look exactly as depicted in Craigh na dun (not a real place). Clava Cairns is one of these prehistoric areas with standing stones that we visited and touched - it's near Culloden. And even though it wasn't the fictional hillside - we still tried our best - just in case but to no avail 😭

For those Outlander fans -- tell us -- how many of these places do you recognize / can you name or place in Outlander context? Some are super easy, others, not so much. Looking forward to your guesses! Slainte!

Janelle and Ashlie's Scotland trip installment 3: Old Sligachan Bridge, Portree, Highland Cows and Culloden!

While we were in Skye, we stopped at the Old Sligachan Bridge. The legend of that bridge is that there are fairies who will grant you eternal beauty if you submerge your face (that water is very cold) in the water under the bridge for 7 seconds. You cannot wipe your face after, it has to air dry and you can't bring water to your face - you must get down and put your face into the water -- those are the fairies' rules - not ours. Did we do it? **OF COURSE WE DID** but the videos are kind of long so go see it on our Instagram pages : ). Clearly there were people on the bridge who thought we were crazy but I think they were just clueless about the good fortune Ashlie and I were to receive from the fairies : )

Highland cows are about the coolest and cutest things ever and we loved seeing them and the many many sheep roaming around Scotland freely (sometimes in front of our car while we were at a stop sign).

We went to Portree, which you've likely seen on Istagram if you have a lot of Scotland in your feed - a really awesome tiny port community. Our hotel was the one in the painting. Sounds of bagpipes echoing everywhere. And yes, again - great vodka!

Included in this installment is also Culloden. The anniversary of the battle of Culloden was just after our visit - this is the site where the British effectively extinguished highlanders and their culture in a frighteningly short period of time.

I leave you with Culloden for now - next up - lots of Outlander things. Stay tuned! : )

After taking in the sites of Glencoe, tasting gin and getting some much-needed rest, Ashlie and I set out for the Isle of Skye with some planned stops along the way.

Our first stop was the Glenfinnan Viaduct for a wee hike.

Many of you will recognize the very famous Jacobite Steam Train which is also featured in the Harry Potter films as the train to Hogwarts. It was beautiful there, and we were constantly surrounded by sounds of running water, chirping birds and views of endless lochs all around us. We had lunch in a very old train car that they had onsite there, toured the small museum before making our way up north (that was an unforgettable adventure we'll post next : ) ).

We stopped at Eilean Donan Castle that afternoon as we made our way toward the Isle of Skye - and we were lucky to have seen the castle when we did because it was closed for filming a few days later (Highlander I believe -- sadly we did not happen to run into Henry Cavill....)

Ashlie and I have traveled many many times together and we *always* have a great time. Our most recent is way up there among our best trips / my favorites.

In April, we took off on an adventure to explore Scotland. Why? Um why NOT?! I was so burned out, decided a work hiatus was necessary, and a girls trip was the best way to get that restoration underway. Who better to do that with than one of my besties who happens to also be the best travel buddy ever?!

I'm going to do several posts about our adventures because there is too much for just one. If you follow either of us on instagram, you've already seen them so either ignore or enjoy again for a second time : ).

Our adventures began with a road trip through the Scottish Highlands - our first stop - Glencoe. GORGEOUS. We stayed in a very cool, old inn with a bar older than our country. The property is also a working distillery (bonus) so naturally we signed up for the gin making tour and tasting (you know, as travel agents, we need to experience things to share with our clients : ) ).

More to come from this STELLAR EXPERIENCE -- hope you enjoy our first stop : )

While most of us are now all knee deep in historically low temps and a whole lot of snow and ice, Joey and Steve are roughing it in Key Largo. : )

Joey can only hack winter and cold weather for so long before she needs to visit the sun -- thaw out and recharge. She sure did pick the best week to do that!

While we're shoveling and talking about whether the kids will go to school at all this week, as you can see in this part one post, she's chilling by the pool and having an espresso martini, Steve a beer and what looks to be some very tasty pie : ). Tomorrow they are snorkeling. I don't know about you but that sounds a lot better than what I'm doing.

If you need to get away, reach out. We'd love to help!

Enjoy your very well-timed trip to Key Largo! Bring some sun back with you xoxoox

Di and Stephan take on Miami Part 2 - what a great tradition they've established!

I've just gotten the feedback from Di and Stephan's trip to Miami Beach for the holidays this past season. As you can see from these great pics, they enjoyed kayaking and time exploring flora and fauna, architecture, found some delicious vegan restaurants, and went SKYDIVING! This resort was comfortable, excellent views (as we saw in the earlier post) and in a great location though they did share they felt that their bar was raised after London and Key Largo last year - hard to keep up with those : )! Enjoy these shots from their adventures. Reach out to us if we can help organize your next adventure - we'd love to!
