It really does take a village.

Written by Lauren, The Pittsburgh Moms Contributor-

I’ve given birth three times—and each time, I wasn’t in the same state as my family. As I’ve gotten older (and a little more introverted), finding my village has been harder than I ever expected. Between retail hours, missed PTA meetings, and baseball games, I’ve had to push myself to walk up to other parents and say hello.

What I’ve learned is this: your village doesn’t always look like what you imagined.
Sometimes it’s your coworkers who check in about your kids or the boss who lets you bring them to work when you’re in a pinch. Sometimes it’s your child’s doctor, teacher, or counselor—the people who get it and help you understand your family better.

And sometimes it’s the family that shows up—whether it’s your sister helping your teen move, your mom watching the boys when school’s closed, or your dad stepping in to drive someone back to college.

Then there’s the village you choose: the mom who reminds you it’s hat day, the friend who grabs your kid when you’re running late, the one who drops off dinner because they just know you’ve had a day. Those are the people who keep you afloat.

Finding your village takes time, courage, and a few awkward introductions—but it’s worth every bit of it. Because when you find your people, you and your kids learn that love and support stretch far beyond your own four walls. ❤️

✨ To the moms still looking for their village—welcome, we can't wait to meet you! Tag a mom below and let's grow this community together 🤍

✨GIVEAWAY TIME✨

We found the cutest baby shower + pregnancy gift — Little Fortunes! 🎉 It’s a playful game that takes old wives’ tales and turns them into fun “tests” to predict if baby will be a boy or girl. Think laughter, keepsakes, and memories with your favorite people. 💕

Pro tip: the game works even when the s*x of the baby isn't a mystery. Test out the accuracy of these myths and see if they line-up with what the doctor says!

And guess what? We’re giving one away to a lucky Pittsburgh mama-to-be (or to gift a mama friend)! 🍼

☀️ Summer has officially arrived in Pittsburgh, and I’ve been reminding all my clients—get those kiddos outside! Sunlight does so much more than lift moods. It’s actually a major player in better sleep. Here’s how:⁣⁣

🌞 Sunlight boosts melatonin naturally.
The sun helps the skin produce melanin, which the body needs to later create melatonin—your sleep hormone. More sunlight = better sleep without supplements.

🕰️ It sets your child’s circadian rhythm.
Our internal clocks (aka circadian rhythms) rely on sunlight to stay on track. Sunlight during the day + darkness at night = a body that knows when it’s time to sleep and wake.

🏃‍♀️ It encourages more movement.
Being outside naturally boosts physical activity. That movement leads to shorter sleep onset (how long it takes to fall asleep) and deeper rest. Win-win!

So as the sun lights up our ’Burgh, soak it up (with sunscreen, of course 😉). It’s one of the simplest ways to help your whole family sleep better at night.💤✨⁣
