3,480+ petition signatures has helped send a strong positive message and fueled the energy and drive to Save North Woods. Thank You!!

We have made good progress and have news to share, but we are not done yet...

Since launching this awareness campaign, North Woods has:

Met with key public and private stakeholders

Presented to Pittsboro and Chatham County Commissioners

Maintained open discussion with NC DOT and Pittsboro's Planning Department

Achieved significant media coverage and broad community awareness and support.

The latest news is that NC DOT has proposed a new alignment that shifts the road a bit to the east. This new alignment is known as "Alternative 7" but as you will see in the nearby image, significant portions of two properties will still be stranded on the other side of the limited access North Chatham Park Way.

A better option would be "Alternative 8" which was proposed to NC DOT as a fair compromise. While "Alternative 8" doesn't completely avoid the neighborhood, it does keep the entire neighborhood intact while minimizing negative impact to the northeast corner of one property.

NC DOT acknowledged receipt of "Alternative 8" and offered to include it in the evaluation process.

The situation is fluid and has the potential to move quickly so we'll keep you updated with news as it unfolds.

Save North Woods Neighborhood started this page to send a clear message to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the Town of Pittsboro NC, and Chatham Park Investors.
What Northwood neighbors want: We respectfully urge members of the Pittsboro and Chatham County community to ask the NC Department of Transportation, the Town of Pittsboro and Chatham Park Investors to Save North Woods neighborhood. North Woods is a longstanding, rural community of 17 homes that is threatened by the proposed trajectory of North Chatham Park Way.
This road wouldn't just be a big loss for North Woods neighborhood, but a BIG LOSS for the greater Pittsboro and Chatham County community as well. We are at the initial stages of the Chatham Park development. How Chatham Park treats its neighbors at the beginning is an important sign for what the Pittsboro and Chatham County community can expect from Chatham Park in the future. So consider North Woods neighborhood the proverbial canary in the Chatham Park mine … if this LAND GRAB is allowed to proceed, Chatham Park will have a validated game plan for similar community situations in the future.
Your support is critical. Send a strong message to NC Department of Transportation, the Town of Pittsboro and Chatham Park Investors that this is not fair, this is not how development should be done. There is no moral justification for multimillionaire and billionaire land development investors to partner with NCDOT to take land from private homeowners for the benefit and profit of wealthy developers.
North Woods neighbors urge you to help us send a strong message to SAVE NORTH WOODS NEIGHBORHOOD and help us tell Chatham Park Investors how they should treat their Chatham County neighbors, now and in the decades to come.

Please help us save our homes! North Woods is a neighborhood of 17 homes just north of Pittsboro NC, surrounded by land owned by Chatham Park Investors which will eventually become Chatham Park’s North Village with hundreds of homes. Working “in partnership” with Chatham Park Investors, NCDOT has proposed to build North Chatham Park Way with an alignment that will divide and destroy the North Woods neighborhood, even though undeveloped land owned by Chatham Park is available for this road 200 yards to the east. If this proposal goes through, NCDOT will take private land for a road which will provide benefit and profit to Chatham Park Investors.
 
As a neighborhood, we are speaking up and we urge Pittsboro and Chatham County to help us send a strong message to NCDOT and Chatham Park … this is not fair!
 
You can help us by visiting our website and telling NCDOT that you don’t agree with this proposed alignment. Ask NCDOT to realign North Chatham Park Way away from North Woods and onto land owned by Chatham Park. Stop the North Woods land grab!!!
