Ever drive by a construction project and wonder, ‘Why aren't they working right now?’. Construction hours can vary from project to project.

MCDOT work ranges from large roadway projects to fixing sidewalks, and everything in-between. Construction hours can be affected by: heat and safety regulations, zoning regulations, and environmental restrictions to keep crews safe & the project running.

And if you’re thinking about highways or interstates, those are generally Arizona Department of Transportation projects with their own rules and requirements.

It depends on a lot of things!!

We’re halfway there - the TT0600 Northern project has officially reached 50% completion!

After months of work on the southside, construction has now flipped to the northern side of Northern Avenue.

This next phase will include utility relocations, rebuilding new pavement, adding right turn lanes, signal improvements at 107th Avenue, adding new sidewalks and ADA ramps, installing roadway lighting and new landscaping adjacent to both sides of the roadway.

We anticipate construction completion in early 2027.

A structure that helps keep people and vehicles moving across canals, to washes, and other roadways. And while you can build one with Legos, the real ones take a lot more planning, engineering and maintenance!

If you're heading out this morning:
🚧 Never drive around a barricade or road closure.
🌊 Don't drive through a flooded roadway or crossing.
🥾 Stay out of flowing washes, even if it isn't raining where you are.
🚗 Give yourself extra time and find another route if water is covering the road.

🌧️ Good morning, Maricopa County. Yes, it actually rained.

Overnight rainfall was widespread across the County, with some of the higher totals showing up across our northern and western areas. Several gauges recorded around a half-inch to more than an inch of rain, with isolated locations around 1.5 inches or more.

And here's the important part: the rain stopping doesn't mean the water stops moving.

Runoff may continue flowing through normally dry washes, low-water crossings and unbridged roads well after the heaviest rain has ended.

If you're heading out this morning:
🚧 Never drive around a barricade or road closure.
🌊 Don't drive through a flooded roadway or crossing.
🥾 Stay out of flowing washes, even if it isn't raining where you are.
🚗 Give yourself extra time and find another route if water is covering the road.

Blue sky over your head doesn't mean there's no flood risk upstream.

Stay weather aware and give the water somewhere to go that isn't through your vehicle.

So... how *does* a road become an MCDOT road?

Before MCDOT can maintain any roads, the County must acquire the right-of-way, review and approve the plans, ensure it's built to County standards, and officially accept it into the Maricopa County roadway system.

This process helps protect taxpayers and ensures roads are built to last.
