Business parters, Iris and Bob Machiz and Jerry and Isabelle Appell, their five children, a baby tender and a high chair landed at Sky Harbor Airport on an excruciatingly hot day in August of 1967. The four adults knew nothing of the desert except that they had knowledge of a wonderful program to lose weight and keep it off and knew it would transform people’s lives. Jumping ahead five decades, Bob Machiz is the CEO and president of the company, Deborah Wright is the general manager.

In the early 60’s, Weight Watchers founder Jean Nidetch began inviting friends into her Queens, New York home once a week to discuss how best to lose weight. Today, that group of friends has grown to millions of women and men around the world who use the products and services of Weight Watchers to lose unwanted pounds.
