The driver of a semi-truck involved in a Highway 99 crash that killed two people was arrested Tuesday on felony manslaughter and hit-and-run charges.

Manvir Singh, 24, was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office booking log.

The crash occurred at about 12:20 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 near Harney Lane.

According to the California Highway Patrol, three vehicles traveling in the No. 3 lane were slowing or stopped because of traffic. A Toyota Camry was slowing to a complete stop in front of a Nissan Frontier, while a Kia Forte was stopping behind the Frontier when it was rear-ended by Singh’s Freightliner Cascadia.

CHP officials said Singh was towing a fully loaded semitrailer. The impact pushed the Kia into the Frontier, which was then pushed into the rear of the Camry.

The semi-truck then veered onto the right shoulder beneath the Harney Lane overpass and collided with a guardrail.
