Sometimes the coolest moments aren’t planned. 🤍🐴
This was just a random day. I was in chore clothes and muck boots, hopped on Kai completely tackless, and started playing around.
Walk. Trot. Canter. Stops. Shoulder yields. Hip yields.
No saddle. No bridle. No halter. No reins.
And somehow, on an otherwise completely ordinary day, we produced a little bit of magic.
I’m not a liberty performer—I’m a horse trainer with a deep appreciation for the raw communication that’s possible between a horse and human. I think there is SO much conversation available to us that often gets left on the table simply because riders and owners have never been taught how to access it.
Liberty doesn’t have to mean fancy tricks or elaborate performances. And the goal doesn’t have to be riding your horse completely tackless.
It can simply be about discovering how little you actually need to say when you’ve taught your horse how to listen—and learning how to listen just as closely in return.
The tackless ride is cool.
The thousands of tiny conversations that made it possible are even cooler.
I wrote a little more about what liberty means to me, how I incorporate it into my training, and why I think more horse owners should get the opportunity to explore it with their own horses.

And if you’ve ever watched liberty work and thought, “I wish I could do that with my horse…”
You can learn. I’d love to teach you. 🤍
