Diesel eats all the profit. That’s the rumor — so we pulled four real weeks of settlements and looked at where the money actually goes.

Diesel is the biggest single line — nobody is hiding that. But it doesn’t take everything. What’s left after fuel and expenses is what you built over those four weeks.

These are one driver’s real numbers, not a promise. Your result depends on miles, lanes, fuel stops and the truck you run. What we promise is that you see every line before you sign.

No rumors. Real numbers. Clear answers.

Insurance feels like an expense you don't need. Until you do.

Here's the real math on what one crash actually costs — not the inflated number from an attorney's billboard, but the official FMCSA figure.

One large-truck crash with no injuries: $49,398.
With injuries: $326,810.
Fatal: $15.2 million and up.

Source: FMCSA Crash Cost Methodology

This isn't fear-mongering. It's accounting. One crash — a single bad day on the road, through no fault of your own — can wipe out five years of ownership progress if the coverage isn't there. That's the math nobody runs when they're complaining about the $400/week insurance line on a settlement.

$400 a week for coverage that stands between you and a $326,000 bill isn't "expensive." It's the cheapest line item on the whole settlement, relative to what it protects.

Still think insurance is optional?

Tomorrow, we're breaking this down further — what's actually included in RUNFOREST's coverage, what drivers in the program don't have to think about, and why real protection costs less than most carriers want you to believe.

You'll want to see it.

Yes, diesel costs money. Nobody's pretending it doesn't.

Here's what gets lost when the "diesel eats everything" line gets repeated enough times — every business has costs. A restaurant has rent and payroll and food costs. A shop has rent and tools and parts. A farm has land and seed and equipment. Nobody tells a restaurant owner "food costs will bankrupt you, don't open a restaurant." They tell them "run the numbers, build the business, keep an eye on margin."

Fuel is your material cost. It's real, it's variable, and it's the biggest single expense on most weeks. But it's not the whole story — it's one line on a longer settlement.

The question isn't "does diesel cost money?" The question is "what do you keep after all costs are accounted for?"

That's the number that matters. That's the number that tells you whether the week worked. That's the number we show every one of our drivers, every Wednesday, on an itemized settlement with every line named and explained.

No surprises. No vague deductions. No math that only makes sense in a recruitment pitch.

If a carrier can't walk you through the full picture — fuel included, take-home included — the "diesel will ruin you" line is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Keeping drivers from asking the question that would get them answers.

"Diesel eats all the profit." That's the line that keeps most CDL drivers from ever running the math on ownership.

Here's what the math actually looks like.

One example week — a $10,000 gross week on a Freightliner Cascadia running typical lanes. Pull up the pie chart in your head.

Diesel is roughly 25% of that pie. It's the biggest single variable expense, which is why it gets talked about the most — but it's still a slice, not the whole thing. Truck payment on the Cascadia runs around 10% of the week. That's not money lost, that's equity you're building toward owning the unit outright. Insurance and the maintenance plan combined land around 10% — protection that costs a fraction of what one unexpected major breakdown would.

After all of that — plus admin, trailer, escrow, and the smaller line items — the biggest slice of the pie is still yours. Your take-home. The part nobody talks about when they repeat the "diesel eats everything" line.

Different weeks run different numbers. Fuel prices move, miles vary, freight rates shift. The honest version of this math acknowledges both the strong weeks and the slow ones.

But the structure stays the same. Every line itemized. Every deduction named. Every week transparent.

Tomorrow, we're showing 4 real consecutive weeks from a driver currently on the path. Real gross, real diesel, real deductions, real take-home. The numbers you can verify instead of the rumors you keep hearing.

Save this carousel. Watch tomorrow's video. Then make up your own mind.

📩 DM "NUMBERS" and we'll walk through a real settlement with you.

The #1 thing we hear from drivers who never made the leap into ownership: "Diesel eats all the profit."

Here's the thing about that line — the drivers who repeat it most confidently are usually the ones who never actually ran the numbers. They heard it from someone at a truck stop. Who heard it from someone else. Who heard it from a driver who had a bad week five years ago in a different program with a different truck and different lanes.

By the time it reaches you, it's stopped being math and started being folklore.

Tomorrow, we're showing 4 weeks of real settlements. Real diesel expense line, real gross, real net at the bottom. From actual trucks running actual lanes in our program right now. No projections, no "typical week" averages, no recruitment-pitch math.

If the rumor holds up against the numbers — we'll say so. If it doesn't — you'll see exactly where the money actually goes.

Either way, you'll have real information instead of somebody else's leftover story.

Stay tuned.

We want to hear from you.

What's the #1 thing that scares you about becoming an owner-operator? Not the polite answer — the real one. The one that keeps you from applying, or from finishing an application you already started, or from having the conversation with your family.

🔴 Diesel costs
🔴 Repair bills
🔴 Insurance
🔴 Not seeing my family
🔴 Something else? Drop it in the comments.

This month, we're answering every one of these with real numbers, real settlements, and real answers from drivers already on the path. No fluff, no hype, no "trust us."

The more specific your fear, the better we can answer it. If you've been sitting on the question for months — this is the space to ask it.

Diesel eats all the profit. Repairs will bankrupt you. Insurance costs too much. You'll never see your family. Lease-to-purchase never actually works.

Sound familiar? These are the myths that keep CDL drivers stuck. Repeated in truck stops, whispered in parking lots, passed from one driver to the next until they harden into "everybody knows."

Some of them started as real experiences. Most of them stopped being accurate a long time ago. And a few were never true to begin with.

This month, we're taking them on. One by one. With real numbers pulled from real settlements, real stories from drivers on the path, and real answers to the questions that usually get dodged.

No fluff. No hype. Just the math and the mechanics of what ownership actually looks like in 2026.

Stay tuned. If there's a specific myth you want us to tackle, drop it in the comments — we'll build a post around it.

09/30/2026

Not every lease-to-purchase program is the same. Most drivers figure that out after signing — a few months into deductions that were never explained, calls that stop being returned, and shops that don't know their truck. By then it's late.

Here's how we run differently, on the specifics that actually matter.

Numbers. Most carriers sell drivers on the gross figure — the billboard number, the recruitment pitch. We show the full breakdown before signing. Every line — lease, maintenance, fuel, insurance, admin, trailer, escrow — itemized every Wednesday, in a format you can verify.

Fees. The pattern in the industry is to bury fees inside settlements with vague labels and explain them (or not) after the fact. We name every fee before you sign, tie each one to a real service, and walk through them line by line. The number of fees isn't the trick — the transparency about them is.

Support. "Call anytime" is easy to say and hard to staff. Our dispatch runs 24/7/365 with real people who know each of our 29 drivers by name. Middle of the night in Wyoming, someone picks up.

Repairs. When a covered breakdown happens, the truck rolls into Forrest Shop in Joliet — our own 6-bay facility, our own mechanics, our own clock. Not a stranger's lot, not a two-hour hold on a mobile mechanic's phone. And if a covered breakdown takes the truck out for more than 24 hours, the lease prorates for that downtime.

Exit terms. Most lease programs lock drivers in with early-termination penalties. We don't. 2 weeks' written notice, return the truck, settle any open balance, walk. No strings. If we can't earn your loyalty, we don't want to trap it.

Compare your options. Bring this checklist to any carrier you're weighing — ours or anywhere else. The ones who answer clearly are worth your time. The ones who don't — you already have the answer.

09/25/2026

Fuel is the single biggest variable expense on any truck's weekly settlement. Miles vary, diesel prices move, routes change — the number is different every week, which makes it exactly the kind of line item some carriers prefer to leave vague.

We don't.

Every fuel expense on a RUNFOREST settlement is itemized — how much fuel was used, how much it cost, and what that means for the take-home at the bottom of the week. Same format every Wednesday, same clarity, same math you can verify against your own tracking.

The reason to itemize instead of summarize is straightforward. A driver on a path to ownership needs to know where the money goes — not just the total, but the pieces that add up to the total. Fuel awareness is one of the fastest ways to increase weekly earnings without changing anything else about how you run.

That's the whole point of transparent settlements. The math should teach you something over time, not just deliver a number.

Nobody actually rolls out a red carpet on day one — but the idea is the same. Show up, meet the team, shake the hand of the person who's going to be answering your calls at 2 AM in Wyoming for the next four years, and get to know the truck that's about to become your business.

First days set the tone for the whole path. That's why we don't rush them.

Ready for yours?
