Death Valley is one of the most unique national parks in the U.S. 🇺🇸
Here are some surprising facts about this place:
✴️ It’s one of the hottest and driest places in the country
✴️ It holds the record for the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth: 134°F (56.7°C) in 1913
✴️ It’s the driest spot in North America, with only about 2 inches (5 cm) of rain per year
✴️ It’s home to the lowest point on the continent – Badwater Basin, 282 feet below sea level
✴️ It’s the largest national park in the contiguous U.S., covering over 5,000 square miles
✴️ The variety of landscapes is impressive: salt flats, sand dunes, colorful hills, and wide open views

• Avoid summer – the heat can be dangerous
• Bring more water than you think you’ll need
• Don’t expect cell service or many gas stations
• Best time to explore: early morning or late afternoon
💡Where does the name come from?
In 1849, during the Gold Rush, a group of pioneers got lost in the valley. Only one person died, but they believed they wouldn’t survive - and started calling it “Death Valley.” The name stayed.
