Not many nail techs use this technique, but itโ€™s a game-changer when thereโ€™s minimal dry skin and all you really need is a light cleanup.

Hereโ€™s how to do it:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Ball bit 031, red grit, 10,000 rpm
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Hold the clientโ€™s finger from the top, just like in the video
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Work only with the center of the bit
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Keep the skin stretched
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Lift the skin first โ€” donโ€™t move directly to the proximal fold
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Start by trimming the skin skirt from underneath, then smooth out from the top
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Long strokes, no pressure

One thing to always remember โ€” never place the bit on the upper part of the skin or it will grab and chew it ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Have you ever tried removing skin with a ball bit? How did it go? Drop your experience below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ve seen nails like these covered with gel using a simple alignment technique. And whatโ€™s usually the result? Thick little โ€œbuttonsโ€ ๐Ÿ˜…

This method not only emphasizes the natural nail shape, but can also make the proportions look even more unbalanced.

This time, one of my students worked with a model like this during the course, because I intentionally donโ€™t choose only โ€œeasyโ€ nails with perfect architecture.

My goal is to show that any nails can look elegant when the right technique is used โœจ

Models are selected based on your personal learning goals ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Hard gel? Apparently not this time ๐Ÿ‘€

This was a new client with a set done elsewhere. She told me it was hard gel โ€” but after just a few touches with the bit, I realized it wasnโ€™t.

The material was much softer and behaved completely differently during removal.

The tricky part is that recognizing hard gel is mostly about experience and comparison.
Some things in the nail industry are hard to explain until youโ€™ve physically worked with different products yourself ๐Ÿ˜…

Thatโ€™s why testing gels and carefully reading product descriptions is so important.

And honestlyโ€ฆ sometimes โ€œsemi-hardโ€ really just means โ€œsemi-softโ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚โœŠ๐Ÿผ

What do you think?
Did the nail tech genuinely not know it wasnโ€™t hard gel โ€” or knew, but simply didnโ€™t explain it to the client? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ’ฌ

The difference? Huge ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

1๏ธโƒฃ Thin layer
Applied to improve adhesion and create slight cushioning between the natural nail and semi-hard/hard materials.

โœ” Always cured
โœ” Always applied with a rubber base

2๏ธโƒฃ Slip layer
Applied with the same material as the overlay to help the product distribute smoothly over the nail.

โœ” Not cured
โœ” Used only for easier gel movement and control

But they do have something in common ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Both should be applied in a thin, even layer โ€” not rubbed into the nail.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Both should reach the fold area evenly, because they become the foundation for the overlay that comes next ๐Ÿ’…

The most challenging โ€” yet most satisfying โ€” part of nail prep is working in the sinuses, right? ๐Ÿ˜

There are two key factors to a clean result: correct movements and the right angle.

Save this video and check yourself โ€” are you entering the sinus correctly? ๐Ÿ“Œ
