Like this page if you want to stay abreast of the Alliance for Neighborhood Prosperity New Orleans and the impact that AirBnb is having on the city of New Orleans. Encourage city officials to stop resting on their laurels. Long-term residents and natives face ever-increasing rates of displacement. After the greatest diaspora and largest disaster in American history, New Orleans can hardly afford t

o lose more of its very at-risk community. Without vibrant neighborhoods, our distinct culture will die and New Orleans will finally become just like any other place else in America and we will be dressed up in the trappings of a dead and monetized culture. We hope to make our civic leaders understand that we have become aware of the wool that's been pulled over our eyes. The AirBnb narrative is charming and gives the illusion of communities being fostered, cross cultural connections, and Mom and Pop making a little extra on the side by being gracious hosts. The reality couldn't be more different, especially in New Orleans. Communities are being broken, racism happens because there is no regulation and codification of practices, and the teeniest amount of illegal short term rentals are actually people sharing the home they reside in. Mostly it's investors renting out complete homes that they've purchased, while displacing a local full-time resident. In the process, these investors are also reducing the amount of viable housing stock in the city, driving up rent and the cost of living, including transportation. This page will serve as a clearing house to identify the greatest scofflaws, including "reputable" community members who engage in this illegal practice. Not only are the violators breaking housing regulations, they are also putting a huge strain on neighborhoods and the city's resources without contributing a single penny to local coffers. New Orleans and Louisiana are facing an enormous budget crisis. Why are we allowing illegal short-term rentals to exist when there are vacancies in our hotels and legitimate B and B's? Why is there no protection for the businesses not breaking the law and contributing to our tax base? Concurrently, we'd like to ask people to please stop using AirBnb, VRBO, HomeAway, or ANY of the services that continue to make millions unregulated and unchecked at the cost of our comfort, our culture, and our very homes. They are huge corporations that operate without compliance. They have huge wealth to defend their practices and fabricate lies. They use bots and astroturfing as tactics to protect their fiduciary interests. Let's talk about it.
