Visibility is crucial piece of information for pilots making weather decisions.

It's also not an exact science. A sensor on the ground computes it using various methods and then broadcasts it to pilots on the radio and thru ADSB.

"Go Arounds are free" or "Wave offs are free"

Every good flight instructor has probably said that a million times, to get a student pilot to check their ego and abandon an approach.

But are they truly free?

There is a cost, training.

You must train for the Go Around. It is a high workload maneuver with large power and pitch changes as well as the need to both navigate and communicate. The aircraft is slow, dirty and close to the ground.

It is a recipe that can easily lead to disorientation and disaster.

So we must be well trained for it. For instrument go arounds ICARUS is the tool to train it. Students can be seamlessly transitioned between IMC, VMC, and back to IMC to replicate the scenario accurately every time.

When you think about Law Enforcement Aviation, often you think helicopters.

What does a Smart View Limiting Device do for training?

It brings the simulator into cockpit and closes the training gap.

Before ICARUS you could

-Train in the aircraft with a hood/foggles/horse blinders. You didn't get a visuals replicating what it looks like flying into clouds, breaking out at the bottom of an approach or when the weather is just less than perfect.

-Train in a simulator where you can dial in any weather scenario but even with "full motion" you couldn't replicate what it feels like to fly and your body knows it. Your mind also knows you are perfectly safe in the box.

With those methods you're only playing half the game.

Spatial Disorientation is caused by a disagreement between your inner ear and your eyes. To train to be resilient to it you need to simulate both of these sensory inputs.

To be resilient in the clouds, you need ICARUS.
