One of my transports this week was from Mira Vista Care Center in Mount Vernon to WhidbeyHealth Orthopedic Podiatrist & Urology for a post surgery follow up.
Quite the long eighty-two mile round trip transport for a sweet, 95-year-old, little lady. She hardly noticed. I had calm, instrumental piano music playing as she slept with a grin on her face, talking in her sleep most of the way.
What a beautiful drive! The leaves are turning, Deception Pass, views of the water, cows in the pasture, sunflowers in the field, gorgeous autumn weather.
We met up with her daughter at the clinic and when asked how her ride was, with a big grin on her face she responded, “Very nice.”
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Those words are my reward! When I hear that, I too get a big grin.

Recently I have had two inquiries for a transport from Mount Vernon to Spokane. For a road trip across Washington state with a client in a wheelchair, a proper restroom must be taken into account.
I found this map.
More than ADA; appropriate changing facilities for older children and adults with the medical need to use incontinence supplies, height-adjustable adult size changing tables in public restroom facilities.
How awesome is that?

Yesterday I had the pleasure of giving a 95-year-old female a ride from a skilled nursing facility she had been in for four weeks to her new home, an adult family home on Camano Island.
Her step-son had called over a week ago from Colorado to inquire of our services and pricing.
He called back a few days later to make arrangements.
On our drive this sweet lady, wearing her nightgown and a knitted shawl expressed her great discomfort from her too small Depends underwear the caregiver supplied her with. She couldn’t wait to get to her new home and get them changed and lay in bed.
She expressed her concern over her attire. She told me she isn’t “FANCY” and she thinks it’s a fancy place. You know what I told her? Well, for one it was wrong of the caregiver to not care enough to put her in the right size britches, ouch! And I told her, “You be you and be comfortable in whatever you wear and this is your home, no one there is going to give a thought.” I also told her as a caregiver myself, I’ve pretty much seen it all and we don’t think a thing about what our client is wearing. It’s their home! And she is 95! Be comfortable!
As soon as we arrived to this gorgeous home with a spectacular view of the water and mountains I let the caregiver know how uncomfortable she was and her requests. Off we went to her new, private bedroom with this amazing view and she was placed into bed immediately so she could get comfortable and nap.
And here the caregiver at the facility told her she wasn’t going to get the care at the adult family home she was receiving there. (Insert my eye 🙄roll). I had to pipe up when she told me that. “How wrong to put that in your head and as if she would even know this to be true!” To place fear in an elderly person, going to a new environment, home, with total strangers is just cruel.
I can only hope our little chats, my encouraging and dispelling what this caregiver at the facility implanted in her head calmed her. Personally, from first impressions she is in a stellar Adult Family Home and I hope and pray for her best.
(Some people should not be caregivers. If it’s just a job, you’re in the wrong field).

Way Maker Personal Care Transportation strikes again! On a Sunday no doubt.
Making a way!
Our first run was to Ashley Gardens, Mount Vernon to pick up a lovely couple we have been taking to church for the fourth Sunday now.
They chose to attend Calvary Chapel Skagit Valley this time. Excellent choice if I do say so myself. 😁 Our home church! Excellent message btw.
We returned home and I no sooner trimmed a couple roasted chickens and set the crockpot for a big batch of chicken/veggie broth to simmer for hours and I received a call.
A woman called for a transport from PeaceHealth United General in Sedro Woolley from the ER Department to an assisted living home, Village Concepts. Shirlee, our client told us in the elevator that we were going to see a lot of antiques upstairs and not just those who live there. 🤣 She wasn’t kidding! The hallways were lined with antiques and different vintage items. So fun! We do love our antiques and I am including antique humans. 😁
Here I thought we’d have a slow day and ended up breaking a sweet lady out of the emergency room.
Her daughter-in-law was two plus hours away when the hospital called to have her picked up. I could hear the relief in her voice over the phone that we could give her a ride.
