A place to spend a lot of time at: Schwabacher Landing.

If you like to take in the scenery and/or take photos, this place can change so many times during the day.

At sunrise, the colors are soft, and if there are clouds, it can look like a painting.

Early in the morning, a moose may walk through, munching on all the willows.

In July of 2025, a bear came through here, and it was reported that a mountain lion did too! Those are not your “usual” animals in this area, but it is a reminder that you can see any animal, anywhere, anytime in the park.

Later in the morning, the light can still be good for taking a photo of your group with the Tetons in the background.

Late afternoon can be bright with the Tetons looking hazy.

Evening brings a quieter time, with silhouetted Tetons as the sun sets.

Even with the many, many photographers that come here in the morning and evening,

it is still a quiet and still place.

A place to consider visiting on your 2027 vacation, May - October.

Sometimes you see autumn colors in unexpected places.

Stopping at the park's south boundary sign makes for a great picture anytime! It has a "we are here" and a "let's begin" feeling to it.

And while there are no trees with changing leaves by the sign, you can see some nice yellow color in the distance.

Win-win!

Sometimes the Tetons aren't viewable due to clouds or mist.

Especially in the morning.

When the mist is partial - it can make for beautiful photos.

When the clouds totally block the Tetons - it can be frustrating.

Something to note: consider backing up.

Spots closer to the Tetons may have views totally blocked.

But if you back up to the outside road, or even to Signal Mountain Summit Road, you may get a Teton view.

Sometimes you just have to consider pivoting when dealing with the weather.

Good luck!!

During this time of year, many colorful leaves can be found along the Snake River.

Drive by the bridge over the Snake River near Moose, WY.

While you are there, look along the river for moose.

Colors and a possible moose!

REMEMBER:

If you see a moose, stay at least 25 yards away.

Stay at least 100 yards away if it is a bear or a wolf.

Taggart Lake Hiking Trail has Teton views at the beginning of the hike.

And in autumn, you can also find autumn colors at the beginning.

Hiking the Jenny Lake trail counterclockwise has its advantages!

You get to walk towards this view and maybe see some Autumn color.

NOTE: Video taken September 30, 2026. At that time there were more Fall colors on the west side of the trail than the east side.

Enjoy!

When hiking in Grand Teton National Park, carry bear spray, have it accessible, and know how and when to use it.

Only use bear spray on charging and/or attacking bears.

Signal Mountain Lodge will close for the season on October 10, 2026.

If you missed them this season, be sure to put them on your itinerary for 2027.

Signal Mountain Lodge is usually one of the first concessionaires in the park to open for the season (usually the 2nd week in May), and the last one to close for the season (the 2nd week in October).

And they always have great views.

One of our favorite spots for sunset photos.

They're also taking lodging reservations for 2027.

Go get your room!

(Campsites open 6 months in advance).

If you are looking for Autumn colors, head to the bridge over the Snake River by Moose, WY.

There is a ton!

You would know that if I had taken a panorama video, but instead, I got sidetracked watching this angler reel in a fish.

Blacktail Ponds Overlook - A place for Autumn color, Teton views, and sometimes moose.

This video was taken on September 28, 2026.

There were over 50 people there at sunrise with their cameras and tripods.

Most were there in hopes of seeing moose - which they did! A mom and her calf.

Others, like me, were there to see the sunrise, the mist, and the colors.

30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Worth it!

If you go at sunrise, take your gloves and hat. You'll be glad you did. And you'll shed them within the next two hours.

Blacktail Ponds Overlook is a stop on Grand Teton's 42 Mile Loop.

There is definitely some Autumn color at the John Moulton Barn.

There is some at the T.A. Moulton too.

But don't go there this year.

Lots of construction, wire fences, equipment....

T.A. Moulton Barn area = mess (but improvements go through a messy stage...)

John Moulton Barn = beauty and peace.

Especially at sunrise.

Even with many people around.
