The Plaza 16 Coalition / La Plaza 16 Coalición We need deeply affordable housing in the Mission District, that meets the needs of the community, without causing harm!!!

We are neighborhood residents, businesses, and community organizations from the 16th and Mission neighborhood and Mission District. We believe in equitable development that creates healthy, vibrant, communities of opportunity. We believe this requires thoughtful, intentional, and community-based strategies to ensure that low-income communities and communities of color participate in and benefit from the decisions that shape our neighborhoods and transit-orientated development.

Plaza 16 joins so many other organizations and community members in support of Supervisor Jackie Fielder taking time to recover from her medical condition.

We know It is not easy to continuously be the voice for our community, especially in these challenging times. We see her work tirelessly Day after Day to ensure there is investment in the services that are critical for our community to have stability.

We appreciate both Supervisor Fielder and her staff for the leadership & effort to destigmatize mental health as it affects 1 in every 5 adults.

👀URGENT: COMMUNITY CONTROL NEEDED FOR LA MARAVILLA👀
👉🏾Since January, Plaza 16 has fought to ensure the values that defeated the “Monster” development are honored in La Maravilla. But trust is broken — developers have shut out the community, blocked communication, and used divide-and-conquer tactics.
👉🏾Marshall Elementary families — key in defeating the Monster — were ignored until weeks before the deadline. They voiced 7 demands, 7 concerns, and 7 asks, all dismissed.
👀We demand👀:
👉🏾A smaller Phase 2 building (10 stories).
👉🏾Real community-led process with Plaza 16 Coalition, Marshall families, and residents.
👉🏾Transparency on housing units, affordability, services, and impacts.
🗣️Call Supervisor Jackie Fielder, MEDA, and MHDC: meet with the coalition and address concerns in good faith.

After more than 7 years of community organizing and fierce struggle, the site at 1979 Mission Street is officially transferred to MOHCD to begin 100% community developed and deeply affordable housing! This was made possible by the ongoing efforts of community members and organizations that remained steadfast in the fight for defeating the Monster and creating the Marvel!
