The dreaded Mezger engine coolant pipe failure — one of the most well-known issues on the 996 Turbo / GT / Mezger platform.
When these coolant pipes start leaking or separate, there are typically two ways to address it:
1. Reseal and pin the pipes
The pipes are removed, properly resealed, and mechanically pinned in place to help prevent future movement.
2. Weld the pipes to the coolant manifold (best solution)
This is widely considered the most permanent and reliable repair, especially for cars that are driven hard or intended for long-term ownership.
If you own a Mezger-powered Porsche, this is one of those issues worth staying ahead of before it turns into a much bigger cooling system problem.
